In the Israeli League game between rivals Maccabi Tel Aviv and Hapoel Tel Aviv, Sofoklis Schortsanitis went into the crowd after some fans in the stands supposedly used a racial taunt against him........
Here is a link with video of him being escorted out by security:

Sofo attacked the stands of Hapoel
The 83-80 road win of Maccabi Tel Aviv over Hapoel Tel Aviv, for the domestic Israeli League, was marked by the unprofessional behavior of Greek center Sofoklis Shortsanitis. After the end of the game, Big Sofo attacked the stands of the home fans, as you can see in this report and video. According to Maccabi Tel Aviv’s sources, their player was provoked by racist chants, however, this kind of outburst is unacceptable, especially when among the fans there are children, like in this case, the four year old son of Hapoel’s coach, Erez Edelshtein. Sofo was escorted by his teammates to the locker room, while Hapoel is asking for his banishment from the league, until the end of the season.

UPDATE:
http://www.eurohoops.net/2014/04/dribbling/46161
“I will rape your daughter and son”
Maccabi Tel Aviv issued an official press release about the Sofo incident, and as it was expected, the club supports the Greek center. As it’s explained, Schortanitis was provoked by a particular fan, still the player is expected to be fined and punished with missing a number of games in the Israeli League.
The text of the press release is the following: “Maccabi Tel Aviv basketball club rejects and condemns any kind of violence – both physical and verbal, which is often severe and no less harmful – and makes it clear that it has no place on the sports court. We expect the players, even in the most severe cases, to find the strength of mind to hold back.
Maccabi will conduct a comprehensive investigation of a disciplinary issue, and will learn in depth the details of the event, and the club will take a decision on the matter, which will be published later.
As it’s already known, the incident occurred after the final buzzer of the game against Hapoel Tel Aviv, when Sofoklis Schortsanitis was heading to the locker rooms – and even though this is an area that should be sterile and the players protected in a hostile environment – a Hapoel Tel Aviv basketball fan from the stands, hung on the tunnel, leaning on the end of it, spat on him, and cursed at him, using terrible and racist slurs. Among other things, the fan shouted: “I will rape your daughter and your son “. Αfter that, he started to run.
Contrary to the reports about injuries, those accusations are groundless. The player did not hit and hurt anyone. Contrary to reports that the player “trampled over children,” it can be clearly seen in the video of the incident that the none of the children were hurt, and the fans in the stands are the people who provoked the incident. The player was blocked by security guards and did not hit anyone”.

Don't shout racist chants at Sofo. This is why I just laughed at that ridiculous thread here in this forum about Shaq punking on Sofo and that Sofo would just take it........you clowns have no clue what kind of guy Sofo is. He's big as hell, strong as hell, tough as hell, and mean as hell.
There has never been anything like him in the NBA. Nothing even close. Shaq would be put to the floor in a second if he tried to punk him. This is a 355 pound version of Artest.
NBA fans really have no clue how mean and huge this guy really is. I think it's the real reason he's never been allowed in the NBA. They are absolutely terrified of him because of stuff like this and the stuff he did at the Greece and Serbia brawl in 2010. The NBA wants no part of this kind of stuff.
That's the real reason Sofo isn't in the NBA. American NBA only fan clowns imagine the other reasons out of their own delsuions.

First of all, he was never marketed as any such thing. Unless some stupid NBA bullshit came up with it. ALL such nonsense ALWAYS comes from NBA in case you never grasped that.
Secondly, 12 points per game in the Euroleague for a center that gets double teamed or tripled teamed every single time he touches the ball, and there is no defensive 3 seconds rule, meaning that they can stay on you as long as they want, without the ball...........is pretty damn good.
So I'm not sure what the hell you are implying there. That's actually unbelievably dominant, considering the rules and the minutes played. That's almost impossible really, and I would guess he would never ever come close to those numbers again.
I mean he is basically triple teamed the whole game, and there is no defense 3 seconds rule. And he can only play limited minutes because of his size and foul trouble.
So 12 points a game is actually unbelievable, also considering he's a terrible foul shooter.
Yeah, I mean WTF.........if he averages like 8-10 a game that's a hell of a freaking lot of production considering his circumstance. So I'm not sure what you are implying there.
And it's not like you can use him much in pick and roll, or at all in pick and pop or something.

He's an NBA draft pick genius. The Atlanta Hawks own his draft rights.
It IS NBA related.
From his Wiki:
Schortsanitis drew interest from the Los Angeles Clippers in the summer of 2006, after having been selected in the 2nd round (34th overall) of the 2003 NBA Draft; however, because he was still under contract with Olympiacos at the time, he did not make the leap to the NBA.[6] In 2010, his contract with Olympiacos expired and he elected to participate in the NBA Summer League with the Clippers, with an eye towards joining the team; this time, however, the Clippers were unimpressed, and he failed to secure a contract with the team. On July 30, 2012, the Los Angeles Clippers traded the rights of Schortsanitis, to the Atlanta Hawks, in a sign-and-trade deal for Willie Green.[7]

That thing on Wikipedia is false made up bullshit. Probably added by gabepizza or qrich or some other lying scumbag. He was offered a contract by the Clippers, but it was a very insulting offer and their owner was very rude to him and his agent.
So he did not accept the offer.
That is the true story. What is posted at Wikipedia is bullshit and anything else from US sports media that claims the same is an outright lie.
None of this even relevant or pertinent, as the Euroleague is a higher level league than the NBA is.

So is this the new Euroleague GOAT that Euroleague (the poster) has been pushing for these days? What a ****ing joke. Dude looks like he's 600 pounds and couldn't get an inch off the ground.
His current weight is 355 pounds, according to his trainer.
Once again you prove you never ever played basketball. He dunks all the times in games. His vertical has to be at least something near to like 2 feet, to be able to dunk, you colossal mental midget.

None of this even relevant or pertinent, as the Euroleague is a higher level league than the NBA is.
It IS NBA related.

It says a lot about the Euroleague that they would try to sweep this horrific incident under the rug... when a clearly deranged 600lb over the hill slob tries to bulldoze his way into the Euroleague arena stands after fans you'd think security would intervene and league would respond with charges/fines/suspensions. But no, the shady Turkish Airlines aren't even acknowledging it let alone punishing Sofo for it. They must be really struggling to maintain their image if they're resorting to hiding their problems rather than fixing them.

The offer probably contained provisions regarding his weight and bf%. I don't see how this could be offending, since he had big problems controlling his weight. He had to go to a clinic in Switzerland to loose weight. I remember seeing a post on this forum back in the 2008 (?) his bf% was 8% and I remember how he looked in 2008/09. This was an insult to anyone who knows how an 8% bf athlete should look like.

You guys are all trolls. Isn't it obvious that the best players on the planet would prefer to play in Europe? How could they pass up the substantially lower pay, the lower publicity world wide and playing in the odd warzone or substandard stadium. There's LITERALLY zero reasons why they would prefer to play in the NBA. The euroleague is better in every single way which is why the best athletes and most talented basketballers on the planet choose to play there over the NBA. Deal with it.

According to former CBS NBA reporter Pat O'Brien, some of the NBA's higher-ups did not want fights to be shown on TV during NBA telecasts. And this was in the early '80s. And the NFL certainly used to censor fights and injured players lying on the field from their TV broadcasts during the 1950s and most of the '60s.

I'm not talking about the Euroleague. A bunch of morons keep claiming this happened in a Euroleague game. I am simply getting the facts right. It did not happen in a Euroleague game.
To answer your question, no, the Euroleague cannot do anything to him. This was not a Euroleague game. The Euroleague and the Israeli League are two completely different and separate leagues. The Euroleague has no authority over the Israeli League.
The reason there is so much hostility in this thread is because this forum is full of jerks.

I have ON RECORD, and NBA front office executive saying that Vassilis Spanoulis is "definitely an NBA player" and that "Jeff Van Gundy would never play him. After that he got mad and left".
This CONFIRMS EVERY SINGLE THING I HAVE SAID HERE.

"There's a slew of guys in Europe that could be on NBA teams," said Milwaukee Bucks vice president of player personnel Dave Babcock. "But a lot of times, they get to a point where they're making so much money over there, that they can't afford to come to the NBA."
Babcock goes to Europe two to four times a year to scout games and look for draft-eligible players — perhaps the next Ersan Ilyasova — and at free agents such as Lojeski. There is NBA talent there.
"Matt's [Lojeski's] team has a starting point guard, Vassilis Spanoulis, who was drafted by Houston," said Babcock. "He signed with Houston, but Jeff Van Gundy would never play him. After that he got mad and left. He's definitely an NBA player."

Spanoullis is not an NBA caliber player, he averaged 2.7ppg on 30% (18% from three) on garbage time and told his coach that he was the "Tmac of Euroleague" and the coach swiftly responded with "Well Tmac is Tmac here" and cut the whiny son of a bitch after 31 games. Honestly he was trash in the NBA, he tried and failed. Meanwhile NBA scrubs like Sonny Weems and Anthony Parker have gone over to Euroleague and etched themselves onto Euroleague's Mount Rushmore. So it's quite clear which league is superior.
Yeah, the Euroleague. Just like Rubio said it. Euroleague is much harder than the NBA is. He said it flat out. Of course the NBA and USA sports media has covered up those comments ever since he made them.

FIBA.com: One of the important modifications of the new governance is that the NBA and the athletes will have a representative in the FIBA Central Board. What will that change concretely?
Baumann: Both things are very important. If you take the athletes, it's very easy to forget about them and to leave them on the side when we take decisions. I think they need to have a voice in this. It's actually the athletes who are putting on a show and that's why everyone else is sitting on the board, not the other way around.
As it relates to the NBA, I think it's a crucial part of basketball's future development, as much as it has been for the past 20 years. It's been a blessing to have the NBA within the international environment for the game of basketball. The work Mr. Stankovic and Mr. (David) Stern did to bring all the world together in 1992 has been a game-changer for basketball. But we see also that sitting together formally will help us in giving a new and much-needed impulse to the growth of the game worldwide. It's also going to be an important piece of perception of the rest of the world to basketball. We're often asked: "What's the NBA? Is it part of you?". With the NBA participating in the Central Board, we are telling the rest of the world that basketball is united. We aim at the same objective, which is to grow the game of basketball in the world and to make sure the FIBA Basketball World Cup is the best sport property in the world.
