the playoff dunk right? there is a vid with Mutombo boasting on the allstar game that Jordan is afraid to dunk on him and then this dunk happened.

Right?

And the thing is, it's not a great dunk by MJ's standards, but it's the moment when it happened, getting the crowd into the game (for some reason, but Bulls kinda sleepwalked through the first 4 games of the ATL series), and the wag, using Deke's signature gesture against him.

Heh, MJ even got a tech for it. :oldlol:

It (dunked on) happens to everyone. It's better to show up on a poster than to not defend at all.

Two all-time greats .... put them on a team and they'd stomp everyone.

No doubt. I have more respect for defenders who try to block a dunk than those who just put their hands up trying to draw a foul.

Yeah, it is the reason why I like Shawn Bradley, Alonzo Mourning and even Okafor, those guys are not afraid to be posterized.

Hell, he got a technical for that move back then. Ref T'd him up for that.

Today, he'd get suspended for 5 mins. Only 5 because he IS MJ, but Stern woulda had to do something.

For basketball reasons, of course.

This has got to be the most vicious poster there is.

I mean, I know there are dunks like Pippen on Ewing that look more "brutal" in action...but this pic...in the moment it was captured.

Howard looks like a baby seal and Kobe is the club.

Yeah, Alonzo would try to block EVERYTHING. He didn't care who you were.

And Mutombo was very out of position to truly contest. He was on the other side of the paint and got his arm in the right place. It's not as if they met at the summit.

Jordan on Mutombo is more about the story behind it. The challenge, etc. If it happened a year earlier without the trash talk and challenge, then it would have been just another dunk and not the subject of a thread.

Nah, Zo did block Vince a few times.

To be fair though, Vince dunked on Zo when Zo was past his prime, old, and post-kidney transplant.

Yup. Big men back in the day would really challenge that shit. Sometimes they got it thrown down in their grill, sometimes they got the block, sometimes they knocked dude on his ass.

Nasty ass dunk by Kobe doe.

Penny's woulda been first. MJ's dunk happened in the playoffs (that was the close-out game, matter of fact).

It took many years before MJ got a nice facial on Mutombo. Before that dunk they were trash talking MJ that he can't dunk on Mutombo later that season it happened.

It's defensive 3 second rule.

It creates less situations where the center is right there, face to face, one on one dunk attempts. What I see more now is the defender coming from the side trying to block it, and it's consider getting dunked on, even when they really had no good shot of blocking it like one would when it's face to face.

I don't blame today's players, or look at past players as superiors, I blame the rule changes.
