KG's speed and quickness as well, so I guess that Dirk should get the nod at PF.

Point Guard - Stockton, he was skilled at everything at elite level, i.e. for example more skilled defensively than Magic. Not a GOAT PG, but it wasnt the question. :D

Shooting Guard - Jordan.

On others I agree:

Small Forward - Larry Bird
Power Forward - Kevin Garnett
Center - Hakeem Olajuwon

CP is skilled at everything too. He was better shooter than Stockton (FT, midrange etc) and scorer. Better defender. Stockton mightve been better passer but he had Karl Malone and Jerry Sloan plus Utah "homecourt" that inflate some his assist number

SG has to be Kobe. I don't put Kobe in front of Jordan in anything besides skill and 3pt shot.

Kobe's footwork and ability toget his own shot off without the outlandish athleticism of Jordan is incredible. But don't be fooled, I got Jordan as Goat. But damn, Kobe is one of, if not the most skilled player I have ever seen.

Relative to Bird, he shouldn't be.

But I love how I'm the only one to mention Webber. Am I crazy? I see Webber as being very similar skill-wise to KG. Webber had better handles, though.

KG is miles ahead in terms of defensive ability... but is that because of the skills? Or the willingness to use them?

The "skills" question is always such a difficult one, because there are such variances in so many things. Did Webber have poor defensive skills? Or was he on a team that never once prioritized defense, and he just didn't care? Was he a good individual defender, but since his team was known for offensive output, and every other player on the team was a defensive liability, were his skills overlooked?

He was over 6'5'' w/o shoes and a pretty good athlete but not on the same athletic level as MJ or even Kobe.. And most times he'd put the show ahead of winning, played in the wrong era you can say, and at his best, before injuries, his teammates were pretty average.

Everyone loves/loved it, and like he even said, he played for the fans, he played to put on a show, way more often than not... And that type of mentality took much way from his potential impact and made his career "worse" than what he could've/should've been, though.

Shit, you should make a new thread for these...These are completely ridiculous how good Pistol was. Causing me to rethink my Jordan pick for skills...At the 2:00 minute for all those who think players only dribbled with one hand watch pistol go through the legs and then crossover like 2-3 times and shake the sh*t out of somebody, lol...He basically was Steve Nash before Steve Nash...

Eh. Well...Stockton shot 54% from midrange in 2000 on 300 attempts. That's where he got most of his points, and he didn't score a whole lot. He was always a good shooter too, and usually elite at the midrange. I don't think CP3 was that much better than Stockton in terms of midrange. But getting his own shot? Sure.

Anyway, no Gary Payton love around here? While he may not be the most overall skilled PG, he had mad footwork skillz in the post. Probably top tier guard in terms of footwork. He probably was the best PG in terms of footwork:

Yea people should definitely see stuff like that, especially before underrating or ignorantly speaking about a certain player, or ranking, even trashing, him without knowing a single thing.

Dude was certainly sick with it  Completely unreal in terms of skill.. Too bad that most of his mentality and intangibles were on the other side of the fence, Pistol was simply the ultimate showman. With the mentality of some of the best ones you can think of in terms of that, and the intangibles  he would've been top30, at the very least.

Kareem at center, and by a considerable margin.

The Hakeem-Kareem debates are a joke. A 38-39 year old Kareem, who couldn't jump over an atom, was just murdering Hakeem. 32 ppg on a .621 FG% over a span of 10 straight H2H games, including three games of 40, 43, and 46 points.

Now, just what would a peak Kareem, circa '70-71 thru 71-72 have carpet-bombed Hakeem with?

And think about this...just what unfathomable numbers would a 23 year old KAJ have dropped on a 39 year old Hakeem?

BTW, what are the definition of skills here?

Scoring, rebounding, passing, defense, and blocked shots? And add staggering efficiency from the field?

Hmmm...I wonder what center would have the best credentials for those "skills?"

I only saw a few of vids of him. He had some crazy skills with passing. I was in awe when I watched him demonstrate one of his pass moves with Red Auerbach. I thought, "No way he could do that in a game". A few months later, I found a game where he did that same pass in a game.

If we talking about the best fancy passing SG, it's Pistol Pete imo. He did some passes that Magic Johnson and Larry Bird never did. He knew how to put on a show.

I wished he would've played in the 80s or above on a better team. But if he did, he probably wouldn't inspire Magic and the rest of the gang.

Connie Hawkins for PF is a stretch... and considering his best years were not really played in the NBA, I'm not sure he qualifies, period. Obviously it's up to each person's interpretation, as no "guidelines" were set. Just saying.

Thanks for your opinion.

It doesn't say in the title question that the player's best years needed to be in the NBA. Irrespective, he was still an All-NBA 1st Team member, so it's not like he was a scrub once he left the ABA.

Compared to the players of his time, he was easily the most skilled forward alive.

As for him playing power forward, he shared time at both forward positions, as did Elgin Baylor (who I also have in my all-time most-skilled team), so they can share duties at the four.

Sorry but there are literally 100 times (and maybe closer to 1,000) more people who are 5'11 than 6'6. Iverson was the best out of all the people 5'11 and up. MJ was the best out of all of the ones 6'6 and up.

Also, a lot of Iverson's success was due to crazy quicnkness and explosion. So there may even be a better answer out there, like possibly Kyrie or someone similar.
