Tim Duncan has played half of his career at center.
Karl Malone is unquestionably the greatest power forward to ever play the game. He dominated the position for like 20 straight years.

Duncan became the GOAT PF after 7 seasons though.

That YouTube video is a great video for fans who have their doubts about legends of the past dominating in this era.
He was owning some players who have been in the modern era in that video.
Odom, Garnett, Duncan, Wallace, Vlade, Yao Ming...... Lol he gave Vlade hell

Malone was a very good and tough man defender... but he wasn't a good help defender, and never anchored a team defense like Duncan does.

Power forwards generally don't anchor defenses though, so it's not really a big deal.
It's like KG and Duncan did, and that's about it... And Duncan played C half the time.

Less than half. He was exclusively a PF from '97 to '03, then he played PF or C depending on who his back up was. He plays PF this season, for example.

If we're talking throwback stuff and head-to-head, Duncan also dropped 46 points on Malone's Jazz in his 3rd season
http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/200001100SAS.html
SAN ANTONIO Tim Duncan scored a career-high 46 points Monday night to lead the San Antonio Spurs to a 93-86 victory over the Utah Jazz, and back into first place in the NBA's Midwest Division.
The Spurs, who now lead the Jazz by a half game, had only two players in double figures as Terry Porter added 16 points.
Duncan, who also pulled down 14 rebounds, was 16-of-28 from the floor and 14-of-16 at the free throw line as he topped his previous career-high of 42 points.
Karl Malone scored 23 points to lead Utah, Howard Eisley added 16 and Bryon Russell had 15.
Utah closed the third quarter with a 10-2 run capped by Eisley's 3-point field goal with 46 seconds remaining that gave the Jazz a 68-59 lead going into the fourth.
Trailing 70-61 after a dunk by Greg Ostertag, San Antonio rallied with a 17-4 run, capped by a breakaway dunk by Antonio Daniels with 6:11 to play.
With Duncan dominating in the low post, San Antonio stretched its advantage to 84-78 on Duncan's jump shot with 1:56 to play.
Two free throws by John Stockton brought Utah to 84-82 with 1:13 remaining.
Porter put the game away for San Antonio with consecutive 3-pointers in the final 51.1 seconds. His second gave San Antonio a 90-84 lead with 16.9 seconds to play.
Utah scored its final eight points at the free throw line, with Malone connecting on a pair to bring the Jazz to within 90-86 with 10.8 seconds remaining.
Porter and Duncan answered with free throws in the final 10.3 seconds to seal the victory.
and he hit a SICK game winner in Karl Malone's face

Helps when you have elbows like Iron Girders.

Dirtiest player of all-time. He wouldn't be effective in the modern era though. Would foul out of games or be ejected for some the garbage he used to get away with in the 90s.

Yeah, because Karl met Jordan in the Finals 6 times.
That's what I hate about the Jordan era argument. Unless you went up against him every single year, you have no excuse. And guess what, throughout Karl's 20 years of dominance (:oldlol:), he only made the Finals three times.

Definitely tough competition... The Jazz also lost to the Blazers, Suns, Warriors, Sonics, Rockets... and later the Mavs and Kings.

Karl Malone is one of the most underrated players on here, while you have guys like Garnett getting overrated to death and being rated ahead of him. People can't be serious if they watched both.
Karl was a great man defender, particularly in the 2nd half of his career, and he could actually lead as the main guy on offense unlike Garnett. This guy is the 2nd highest scorer of all time, a great defender, insane longevity, a 2 time MVP, and he was a winner in his career. He consistently led his teams to great records.
If he just won a single title in his career, he is more than likely considered top 12 by most.

They had a great record twice and Stockton was helping lead them. Considering he played his worst ball when it mattered most it's arguable as to whether he should be considered a winner.

The negative (mis?) conception about Karl Malone the basketball player:
- Dirty player, especially with elbows
- Not very good at creating own offense
- Choke artist in big moments

Also, his percentage dropped down greatly in the playoff, contributing to his negative traits.

Yeah that's cool and all, but Duncan's third season was Malone's 50th. I don't know why you got so defensive. I put several names in there. I forgot Shaq's though.

Malone was entirely too ****ing powerful for plays like that. I think he could really have killed somebody if he did it MWP style with cocking it all the way back and throwing it full force.

You can't say he owned Duncan and then when Duncan does the same (and 46 points on a player is complete and utter domination) it's, "Oh, Malone was old and washed up by then."
Where's the great defense?

Not to mention Malone was fresh off winning an MVP award and finished top-5 again in 2000. He may not have been in his physical prime, but no doubt Tim Duncan could handle his own against Malone. Averaged about 25 ppg to Malone's 20 ppg in their regular season meetings.

I'm not about to go back and watch the game but Duncan shot a ton of free throws and Malone only had 2 fouls. I doubt he was guarding him.

If a superstar in the current era doesn't win a championship this forum will constantly go after him, but if an 80s, 90s player doesn't they always get a free pass.

Every team exec , if they could build a PF proto type would be Malone.
Malone easily ran the wing , while Duncan was ALWAYS A TRAILER.
because of this as well as rebounds, passing skills , and total points in career,
I would pick Malone every time.
* multi positional player is Duncan. : Last 6 years he has played CENTER

That's most likely a month suspension or more these days. The funny thing is no one gave a shit when it happened back then. After all the physical punishment and cheapshots the Pistons dished out over the years I remember Malone was viewed as a hero among fans rather than a villain for that elbow.

off topic, but imo lebron would be this era's malone if he stayed in clevand and never won a ring. its funny how perceptions change with time because i have no doubt malone would be an mvp caliber player in today's game

Are there any PFs that anchor defenses? If they do, aren't they "really" a C?
I suppose someone like Anthony Davis could be considered in this way. However he seems like he'll be playing C once his frame fills out.
