Watch this video, interview with a former front office member for OKC

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDqdEiQm2XU

If you ever wanted proof that OKC has the GOAT front office in regards to drafting, here you go.

They narrowed down their draft choices to Russell Westbrook and Brook Lopez, both guys projected to be drafted 5-6 picks lower than OKC's pick. Yet both of those guys turned out being the best two options for OKC if you look back. And yet OKC still made the correct choice between the two.

You don't draft Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, Serge Ibaka, James Harden, Reggie Jackson, and now Steven Adams (who is raw is hell yet still a good contributor for them at age 20) all by mistake, or "luck."

OKC made great choices but also some bad ones too

Green over Joakim:facepalm :facepalm :facepalm
DJ White over Pekovic, DeAndre, Asik or Goran :facepalm
BJ Mullens over Taj Gibson:facepalm and Dan Green
Cole Aldrich over Larry Sanders

Basically OKC front office is great w/ perimeter players but they suck @zz w/ bigs:facepalm

They got lucky with Durant.

That being said...it is widely acknowledged that OKC has great scouts.

Howd they get lucky with KD...........Oden was the most favored #1 pick even tho some smart GMs would take KD 1st so w/ Oden gone any choice but KD wouldve been retarded

That's what I meant by lucky. THe thunder happened to have the number two pick in a draft where the only choice after Oden was gone was Kevin Durant. Who happened to turn out into one of the greatest scorers of all time.

If they had the third pick the franchise would still be irrelevant. :confusedshrug:

DJ and BJ were pre-OKC era aren't they? Green was an okay pick, but didn't the Celtics pick them and we only traded for him?

I think they got Jeff Green from Boston, it wasn't really their pick.

I wonder if the Sonics would've took Oden if we won the lottery...

They probably would have picked Oden if they had the #1 overall that year. But otherwise they have been damn good with their drafting: Westbrook and Harden were just amazing picks. Even Green turned out to be a great player.

Strongly doubt this. Durant is like, the definition of a prototypical Sam Presti pick

Mock drafts had Westbrook going 6th to the Knicks... I don't think Dantoni would have wanted to draft him though, he was too much in love with Gallinari. Not that it mattered anyway since he was off the table by then.

Why? Adding up all the variables that Presti makes his picks based on, I see absolutely no reason why he would have drafted Oden over Durant.

They were mostly 1a and 1b throughout media debates on where they ranked, the difference is the media clowns had Oden as 1a because of that whole "Durant is too skinny" shit. (Completely ignoring the fact that this "skinny" kid just single handedly shat on every single college player that attempted to guard him that year)

I wouldn't know about that but Oden in college looked like he was going to be a Shaq-like dominant big. Anyone would have taken him #1 in my opinion.

Perhaps Oden wouldn't have gotten injured had he got drafted by the Sonics, and is on his way to being the GOAT

do you take the powerful, David Robinson-lite big man or the (at that time) skinny-as-hell SG/SF? Even if on a talent level, they were perceived to be similar, the general consensus was that you always pick the big man over the foward/guards. We'll never know if the Thunder would've picked Durant #1 over all though.

Sonics would've picked Oden if they had the first pick, just like everyone picks bigs when they have the chance. Jordan got passed for Bowie and Akeem. No shame in Durant being picked after Oden.

No. They weren't. KD led his team to a first round humilation in the NCAA tourney and put up ZERO reps at 135. There were a few clubs that said they would have taken KD but there was a strong consensus for Oden at #1.
