View Full Version : Remember the girl tweeting terror threats?
There wa a thread here but can't find it now soooo Remember the other day girl who sent that tweet to Americans Airlines with the bomb threat, the one who some thought was safe and the tweet would be ignored because she was in the Netherlands (including herself)
Guess not, there's a lesson here people... You're never truly anonymous on the net
Police in Rotterdam, Netherlands, confirmed to NBC News that a 14-year-old girl has been arrested in the Netherlands for allegedly writing a message on Twitter that threatened American Airlines.
The original tweet has since been deleted, however various news organization have reported the exchange between the teen, who tweeted under a fake name, and the airline's customer service Twitter handle.
The message from @QueenDemetriax_ reportedly said "@AmericanAir hello my name's Ibrahim and I'm from Afghanistan. I'm part of Al Qaida and on June 1st I'm gonna do something really big bye"
The airline responded through their @AmericanAir account. "@queendemetriax_Sarah, we take these threats very seriously. Your IP address and details will be forwarded to security and the FBI."
Rotterdam police said they first heard of the tweet when a member of the public notified authorities. According to police, they investigated the information on their own without a request from authorities in the U.S.
"It was a serious tweet, so we had to investigate," a spokesperson told NBC News.
Once police investigated and discovered the identity of the person behind the alleged tweet, that teen and her mother went to the police station to turn the teen over to authorities. Authorities are questioning the girl, but have not yet filed charges.
When asked for comment, American Airlines representatives said "At American, the safety of our passengers and crew is out top priority. We take security matters very seriously."
Meanwhile others, including the teen alleged to be behind the tweet, said the message sent to the airline was a "joke."

I don't understand the arrest though. Why not just go to her house, inspect it, question her, and then just explain to her that joking in this manner in this day and age can get you in trouble?? Her parents should be punishing her, not the law.

Yeah I was looking for it earlier, found the link and saw it'd been deleted. Didn't bother making a new thread, didn't feel it was threadworthy.

Her punishment needs to be severe enough to discourage this type of behavior in the future.

Setting an example out of a 14 year old girl?
So what is this going to teach again? Teaching young people to not kid around on twitter and if you are actually planning on doing something dangerous be more discrete about it? Sounds like it will have the opposite effect..
lol @ all the comments as well. "Prosecute and teach her a lesson! Ship her ass out to Afghanistan where she belongs!"

Dude, just because you have the freedom of speech doesn't mean you can post ridiculous shit like that.
Try this. If you have a 14 year old kid, take him/her to an airport and make them yell "Bomb". Not just in America, but in most countries, you'd get detained, questioned, and possibly a fined or some shit like that. Heck, if you're a tourist in a country and you pull that shit, 99% of the time, you're gonna get deported.
It's just not funny. Also, how could they know it was a 14 year old doing it until they actually tracked the person down? You do realize that most people aren't who they claim they are on the internet, right?
One more thing. AA is a publicly traded company. If threats like this make the news, and people don't know who it's coming from, the stocks prices might fall. This effects everyone. Not to mention the time and money the airlines has to spend to make sure that it's just a retarded kid who need a good whooping, and not a dumb **** who actually wants to blow up their planes.

"Arrest" in the Netherlands for a 14 year old means being kindly escorted to the police station, having a chat with a nice gentleman and maybe having to help out at a petting zoo for 4 hours as a punishment.
So all in all not a big deal.
