I know the NBA will never do it since it doesn't make sense to cut down games business wise. But damn it, the season drags on for way too long.

58 game schedule all the way like 2k.

It does suck getting so excited for the start of the season than 1/3rd into it you don't care anymore.

No, it should be longer. 4 months without basketball is painful enough.

Hell, I would say the start of the season sucks as well IMO. I don't really get into the NBA till Christmas due to football.

I wouldn't mind if it was ~10 games shorter tbh

It need to be at least 10 games shorter. 82 games is too long.

58 game schedule all the way like 2k.

:applause: 58 games, no conferences, 16 team playoffs, 1 home, 1 away game vs every team in the league.

leave the NBA from October to April alone...each week a "game of the week" and leave the NBA playoffs best of 7.

The end.

PS All-star players chosen by fans/players
All-star teams then chosen by coaches staff of the two highest ranked teams...

Will never happen.

Too much money would be lost and it would effect records.

Better question:

Can anyone think of a way to change the schedule length.... without having to start the record book over?

Easy

It's not like other major sports haven't had to change rules or the length of a season that effects records. I keep on seeing the "per stat" listed on this site and it's brought up in basketball more than any other sport... well that stat would also keep the old records sacred.

less games means more meaningful games.

Im all for 62 game seasons

It's a pretty simple formula really. Less games equates to less injuries, which equates to a greater overall product. But this is a business my friend. Erasing games also equates to a decreased sum of revenue.

Never going to happen...

They should have 30 games. You play each team once. That's it. That would be a meaningful regular season.

It's obvious that a 55 game season would be better. Maybe even 45.

It's also obvious that, for the sake of overall level of play, the league should be only 25 teams deep.

It's also obvious that hardcore fans would like it if the big stars didn't get favorable referee calls.

It's also obvious that hardcore fans would like hand-checking back and don't like the unbalanced nature that the league has now which favors guards over pf's and centers.

But none of this will change, because pleasing hardcore fans and quality of play doesn't matter in comparison to overall revenue.

I like the 82 games.. wouldn't want the season shorter but if they could add a couple weeks to get rid of back to backs i'd be happy

Hey I'm all for a shorter season, but lets not fly off the handle here. Shorten the season enough where back to backs no longer exist and be done with it. Basically shortening the season to 65-70 games.

Only having a 30 game season is absolutely crazy and isn't realistic at all.. this isn't football.

66 games

2 games outside division (1 home, 1 away)
4 games against division opponents

KDthunderup

I would support a shorter season. The end of the season drags out too long and teams start getting tired and sucking and are just waiting for the playoffs.

76 games. 4 games against each division team. 3 games against non division teams in same conference. 2 games against teams of other conference.

maybe i lost interest doing other stuff but this for me was the most boring RS in the last 5-6 years with so many tanking teams and some really bad games.

some great matches middle through the season and some guys lighting it up were my only +es.

I agree, this has been the most boring season since 06-07.

FVCK all you PUSS!ES

the 80s and 90s never complained... why should the kids of the newest generation complain? They literally have the best flights, hotels, buses, training, equipment, pay that the NBA has ever had. its endless how much the average NBA player is better off than they were in the 90s/80s. so therefore their bodies should be much better equipped to deal with the 82 game season.

Plus for records sake, i dont want any other season besides 82 games.

Reduce to 50 games, contract to 20 teams, raise the rims to 11 feet, widen the court and move the 3 pt line back, award technicals for flopping, call fouls on the offensive player when they throw themselves into the defender, and call travelling.

58 games would be the absolute minimum. Playing each team twice makes a lot of sense. I actually would be in favor of 66 games. Each team in the league twice...then 2 extra games against each division opponent. I believe that would be 58 plus 8 for 66 total games.

I think that is the perfect number. I think you could get rid of all back to back games with that as well.

Totally in favor of seeding 1 through 16 as well.

That would definitely lead to better 2nd round matchups.

get rid of conferences, shorten to 70 or so games or somehow get rid of back to backs and add teams in europe

More games equals more basketball equals more games to enjoy.

My only issue with this many games is increasing chance of injury.

Yea, but wouldn't you rather have less injuries and more quality competition? Back to backs and the length of the schedule really hurt the quality of play on a nightly basis in the league...it also gives teams a bigger margin of error.

There is no doubt the on court product would be improved playing 16 or so less games a year in the regular season.

They should just move the Pacers and Colluders to the West and fold the rest of the East
