I do think that the driver was baiting the cop a bit, but the officer was a tool.

Not sure how I feel about this trend of recording police in general.

These idiots were looking for exactly this kind of confrontation. While the officer stupidly obliged them, the toolbox and his toolbox girl were being argumentative from the start of the conversation.

Also, it sounds to me just from what the officer is saying that these people are following police to crime scenes on a regular basis. If so, they deserve to be arrested, imo.

The nature of my work has me in constant contact with the police and crime scenes, and people like this -- who sit around listening to the scanner to catch a thrill -- are major problems.

They DO take focus away from the police and others on scene trying to do their jobs and they serve no purpose whatsoever.

It's too bad the officer reacted in the manner he did. I feel as though that likely will not go over well for him. But as most posters have said, I also do not care for the folks who bait police interaction so they can prove on tape how much they know about the law. I find it bizarre, unnecessary and counterproductive.

The good news is the officer's partner seemed to have a good grasp on the situation, though he was surely bummed with the way things developed. He handled himself quite well, in spite of the frustrating circumstances.
