with regular joes all around average height, 5'8"- 6'2" and amongst them is a tall black dude, about 6'7". Homie looks like he can ball but as soon as the game starts, you quickly realize he's kind of a klutz with the rock. Can't shoot from the outside, goofy post up moves but boy can he jump. He's grabbing all the rebounds, blocking shots left and right, throwing them outlet passes to his teammates that basically do all the scoring. Only scoring this guy does is putbacks because he's jumping over everyone.

After the game is over and his team wins, he's getting all the credit from white boy teammates, all of them so glad he's playing with them. Deep down doe, you know he sucks and he's only taking advantage of his obvious physical advantage over the short flat footed opponents. Ever seen that? That's Bill Russell in a nutshell.

Some of these guys here claiming he's the GOAT:facepalm Da fuq outta here. He ain't even a top 5 GOAT center. Dude dominated a weak period. Yeah he went up against Wilt but he had a stacked team while Wilt was putting up ungodly stats carrying scrubs most of the time. Russell today is a defensive specialist or are you gonna say he'd lead his team to 11 chips in today's NBA? Not happening. I'll take KAJ, Duncan, Shaq, Hakeem, Wilt all day everyday if I'm starting a franchise today.

Russell isn't GOAT, not even close. One demensional players dominating a weak era with multiple HOFers ain't getting my vote for GOAT.

Deal with it.

Because this is largely a troll board, people are just clowning on CavsFTW/LAZ and the rest of us, either baiting for an argument or trying to get a reaction (some are just messing around).

Though I disagree with the OP, he has reasoning behind his stance, so I can't do anything but respect his opinion.

ROFL

Shaq and LeBron know how to put the ball in the hoop. Get outta here, I listed Shaq as a big I'd take over Russell. I'd take LBJ over Russell easily too.

Op, maybe you need a bit of research on Russell. I agree I dont feel he's goat, he's fringe top 5 on my personal rankings. However, he's more than what you're painting him to be. He was maybe the best intangibles guy ever. I know the whole averaging more rebounds than points thing stands out. As well as his 2 guard fg%, but when you look at league average for those days it was a bit lower than today's game. And they played a far more up and down game back then that wouldn't lend well to most big men. His i.q. was far ahead of others from his era offensively and defensively and he did the little things that led to wins. I used to think and say all the same things I see in this thread, but after doing some reading and research about his era I have a new respect for the greats from that era. I still do feel he's a bit overrated, but you are doing yourself a disservice by not learning about the man.

That's not at all what I'm saying or else I'd argue Manute Bol > everyone else :facepalm

What I'm saying is that Russell dominated in an era that had too many short flat footed players who'd have no business being anywhere close to an NBA court today. We're talking about an era where Bob Cousy was considered "great":oldlol: YouTube Bob Cousy for the lulz. Sorry, that era was garbage littered with what would be considered today scrubs. Stick Russell in today's game and all his natural physical advantages disappear. That's what I'm arguing. Nothing but a defensive specialist today.

BTW, I don't really care about Russell's 11 rings argument for GOAT, that is such a specific era anomoly. That would not be replicated in any other era. The way I see it, to be GOAT, you need to have the least amount of weaknesses in your game and also need to have skill, talent and intangibles that transcends eras. How would LeBron do in any other era? How about Magic? What about Shaq? No question to me those guys would dominate in any era. I'm not so sure about Russell. Stick Russell in the Cavs today and he wouldn't amount to shit. He's DeAndre Jordan today pretty much.

GTFO with Bill Russell as the GOAT crap:mad:

So basically Op's criteria is more about " Skillset"....

OP even used " era specific" viewpoints...

wow...I always viewed Michael Jordan as slightly...I mean very slightly better ball player then Kobe.....

But...

after OP's rant I changed my view...Kobe has a much better skillset then MJ ( especially young MJ) and Kobe played in a tougher era for perimeter players ( compared to the watered down 90's)

Kobe ( using OP's criteria of skillset and era specific's) could easily be viewed as better then MJ now.

thanks...you the Man...THE Man.:applause:

Nice thread derail attempt:applause:

This isn't about Kobe or MJ. Love the way you dodged the thread subject, BTW.

Should I put you down as someone who believes Bill Russell was a better and more well rounded big than Wilt, Shaq or Hakeem then?

Give me reasons why you think Russell is better than KAJ or GTFO.

Try to use an argument that doesn't include 11 chips in 13 years because we all know that ain't happening in any other era but his.

KAJ >>> Russell, you know, I know it, don't act dumb.

no not trying to derail..

...It's cool seeing MJ fans come around and list criteria that point toward Kobe being viewed as better then MJ,.

Kobe played in a much tougher era for perimeter players backed up by stats and facts....Kobe has a much more well rounded skillset then Jordan did, backed up by countless people who watch and understand the game/asthetics.

(except in this case you are using Russell vs Kareem)

Bruh...

Bean in his third season out of High School (Weak 90s): 19.9 PPG (46.5% FG)/ 5.3 RPG/ 3.8 APG

Bron in his third season out of High School ('tougher era'): 31.4 PPG (48% FG)/ 7.0 RPG/ 6.6 APG

We already knew Bron was a vastly superior ball player to Bean... but you mean to tell me that he's that much better than him? :biggums:

In a tougher era (same season Bean put up 35, 5'11 165 lb Iverson put up 33, 6'4" Wade broke the finals FT record), Bron in his third year out of HS was dominating whereas Bean, in the weak watered down 90s at the same point in his career, was a homeless man's James Harden.

Here u go...look at facts

let's see Kobe in his 4th season 99-2000/yes he was a starter against Jordan old competition
