Is Goku vs Frieza the GOAT Anime Fight?

Maybe this is just cause I grew up on DBZ and Frieza was the first true super villain of the show, but was Goku vs Frieza the GOAT anime fight? It had everything. The storytelling was superb, especially before the fight. Goku took so f*ckin long to reach Namek and tension was built so f*ckin high. When Goku actually touched down in Namek and wiped out the Ginyu Force that Vegeta, Gohan and Krillan had been having so much trouble with, it was a awesome moment.

The actual fight with Frieza was after Vegeta's death. Vegeta's empassioned speech about how Frieza wiped out their once feared race, and how Goku should forget about his softness and kill Frieza with no hesitation. When the great evil Vegeta started crying and begging Goku, it was just :cry:

The fight itself was epic. Back and forth, you really had no idea what was going to happen. The part where they thought they had won and they finally began celebrating and laughing, it was real emotional. Then suddenly Frieza is alive and he kills Krillin by exploding his body. That was crazy.

And then of course one of the most epic parts of anime history when Goku goes batshit crazy and turns into a Super Saiyan, and dominates Frieza. Frieza getting caught with his own destructo disc and getting sliced in half, and then continuing the fight for another 5 episodes was :wtf: That nikka fought with one arm and no legs for another few hours :oldlol:

Frieza resignation to failure and his desperate final attempt to win by destroying Namek was epic, as Goku obliterated him and raced to get off Namek in time. The fact that they both a exploded planet (and in Friezas case being split into a dozen pieces and floating in space) was amazing.

I think in the future people will acknowledge how great of a fight it was. It was long as hell, but if you really paid attention it was extremely well done. This fight is very underrated. People often say the protagonist is the driving factor behind the success of a tv show, but to be honest without a great antagonist it will never reach its full potential.

Dragonball Z really exploded in popularity during the time when Frieza was the main villain. You could say the Frieza saga MADE Dragonball Z.

As far as the fighting itself? No.

In terms of pure combat, the Goku vs Perfect Cell is the best... Followed by Majin Vegeta vs Goku.

That is somewhat the case yes. The saga was meant to end with Namek exploding. Frieza dead, and Goku's existence a mystery. And then hit the surge in popularity, a huge demand for another saga, and up came the aftermath.

This is also true. Dragon Ball Z was meant to be centralized around Gohan being the ultimate hero. But the overpowering fan favoritism for Goku pretty much forced Akira Toriyama to the other way.

I agree that the Frieza saga is the true roots of DBZs popularity, but it wasn't the case of the antagonist Frieza. It was Goku. The anticipation, waiting for him to heal to face Freiza, the fierce confrontation, the spirit bomb that couldn't do the trick (yeah I put my hand up for that shit), and then the breakdown into a super saiyan, to the 5 minutes to save it all. That poetic sequence is what made Dragon Ball Z. And I'll always have a place for it in my metaphorical heart. :applause:

I love this anime and I love that fight. I watch this movie multiple times, and I still find myself watching it over again once in a blue moon.

Right now it's basically DBZ with Bible themes. It all went from grounded ninja fights with reasonable powers and actual strategy to mindless DBZ style destruction and "I can destroy more square blocks than you" type fights.

Yeah, and I hate that. There are only a few animes that could do that well, and DBZ was one of them. Mainly it's because it was the first of its kind, and the fights were cool.

I do think that the Pain Arc was just as good as the Chounin Exam.

Jeez Jameer he's actually right. DBZ was the inspiration to many anime and even the author have said so. I am not that big of a fan of DBZ and think is overrated but it still doesn't mean is a bad anime. It is still an enjoyable anime to a lot of people.

Inspiration in the way characters and the battles are done. People tend to copy and improve on techniques done before.

Heck Naruto and Luffy are characters with way too much confidence with a particular characteristic that makes them weird to many people just like Goku.
