Just a narrative that people followed regardless of how true it was. Happens all the time.

He is one of the greatest finals performers ever, even won his
FMVP when his team lost when he put up 42/13/12 in game 7. It was a shame he went up against those amazing celtics teams.

Clutch player and clutch team are two different animals. It makes perfect sense. Reggie Miller has only been to the Finals once, and he didn't even perform that well, and he's still considered clutch.

See this is where people go wrong... They simply look at Finals Record and assume clutch/not clutch... Kobe is 5-7, we know he ain't a dominant finals performer...

West, is Mr Clutch for a fkn reason.

His name is not Wilt, Kobe, or Lebron. Therefore absurdly foolish criteria for determining clutch don't apply.

Basketball fans used to judge players by how well they played basketball...

They didnt do as much "____ lost and is now _____".

One of those losses he had like 42/15/12 in a game 7 loss on a leg full of pain killers...

In another he led the team to the finals putting up like 42ppg without Elgin Baylor.

He was out there wetting 60 footers to force OT in finals games(would be the most famous game winner ever if they had a 3 point line).

He earned his nickname.

Hell, the so-called GOAT, had a 63 point game in a double OT loss, with a series average of 44 pg...in a first round sweeping loss.

Obviously he choked badly in that series. Now, how can anyone call him the GOAT when he couldn't even get his team past the first round that year?

Something tells me that when you have the only finals MVP in history on a losing team, that loss was not your fault. I have not seen any of the games but going by stays alone dude was beast mode in the finals. Only so much one man can do.

And that was just ONE of MANY great post-season series. I wonder how many fans here know that it is WEST, and not MJ, that holds the highest scoring playoff series in NBA history...at 46 ppg?

But, had the league known at the time, that all they had to do was overplay him to his right, and force him to go to his left where he was basically helpless, and he would have been out of the league in a couple of years.

BTW, how come the NBA "Logo" depicts West dribbling with his LEFT hand? That never actually happened...

This... can you imagine if Tony Parker beasted so ****ing hard that they gave HIM the FMVP even though the Spurs lost?

He would have to had averaged like 40ppg.

which is what West did. Against Bill Russell and a stacked HOFer team.
