Just thought it's worth mentioning, because steals don't get enough attention. Since 1974, when steals started officially being counted, nobody else has led the league in spg more than 3 times, and Paul has doubled that. Plus 3 assist titles.
He also had the 3rd highest average in 2010, but missed too many games to qualify.

Not much, Stockton's peak averages were still higher and at times he misses a bit too many games.

Physically I don't think he'll have the longevity to do it.

It is impressive though, considering he doesn't just abandon his defensive responsibility in order to chase steals. He's just a good defender.

In total steals ?

No way. The record stands at 3,265. Paul has 1,485 total career steals. Stockton already peaked higher in total steals and per game than Paul has.

Durability is so key here and Stockton was arguably Top 3-5 range in this category of all-time players, if not higher. Stockton missed 18 games out of a possible 1522 games. That's 98.8% of games he played in. Only 2 out of his 19 seasons he missed any game.

Paul, while impressive, won't catch Stockton because I see him breaking down with injuries sooner. He has already missed too much time for him to keep a high amount of total steals to chase the record.

That is absolutely absurd.
