48 pts on 29 shots, 16 reb 3 ast 2 stl 1 blk, only 2 TOs
Aldridge had 46 points on 31 shots
Lebron had 45 on 26 shots, but he shot 56% on FTs & had 0 stls, 0 blks & 4 TOs

Shaq had 46 on 33 shots, but he also had 17 rebs & 5 blocks, but Kobe's gamescore is higher than his

The crazy thing about Kobe & Shaq in 01 was that both were crazy good on both ends of the floor & both of them made plays for eachother, the chemistry was unreal in the Playoffs that year. Every game, except for Game 1 of the Finals, looked effortless. The way Kobe tore up the Spurs was a thing of beauty. He flat out destroyed the twin towers. Shaq took a huge wet dump on Mutombo in the Finals while Kobe kept AI in check.

No, infact they were the 2nd best defensive squard according to Defensive Rating for their era.

00 Kings - 102.1 DRTG; League Average 104.1; Difference +2

01 Kings - 99.6 DRTG; League Average 103; Difference +3.4

11 Hawks - 107 DRTG; League Average 107.3; Difference +0.3

12 Celtics - 98.2 DRTG; League Average 104.6; Difference +6.4

14 Rockets - 106.3 DRTG; League Average 106.7; Difference +0.4

As for 2012, one has to keep in mind that there might have been a lockout effect for team offenses that season, not that it really matters THAT much for the Celtics defense because it would have been impressive regardless.

Checked out some different defense numbers, he gambles too much I'd say, and from watching it was hard to say that. I probably overrated him based on his tools/potential.

I think Aldridge is playing like the best PF after BG right now. Don't get me wrong, I like polished offensive players, but Aldridge takes too many long 2s. KG did the same thing (BTW he, along with Kareem, is the counterpoint to W/L record; though I think AD should get blame this year), but he was a dominant defender.

I like the 20 footer because that shot will ALWAYS be there in the playoffs, but if it's not falling constantly, you're ****ed. If Portland can steal this series (or LMA can continue playing well), I'll be a fan. I do think that bigs should be defense first, and offense should be a bonus (unless you're a Wilt, Kareem, or Shaq).

 But I have no problem admitting I might've jumped the gun a bit early. I don't think one game from LMA is enough, though. He did lead the league in 20-20s this year, so that was cool.

The 6/24 game was garbage and shame on you for trying to say otherwise. By this logic LeBron's 2011 Mavs series was not actually bad because he had solid all-around stats.

Kobe had a good Finals series and shot about his average, except for Game 7. He averaged 29.5 6.8 4.2 with 2.3 stls 0.8 blks on 43/37/93 shooting in the first 6 games, he just had one game, where his shot just wasn't going. He only had 2 bad shooting nights in the series, and both of them were wins, where he did well in other areas of the game.

Kobe played well enough for his team to win the title, LeBron obviously didn't. Kobe was the leading scorer in the Finals(also led his team in assists and steals) while Lebron was 3rd in scoring on his own team, Kobe didn't have an 8-point game in the Finals, Kobe just had a bad shooting night in a Game 7 of the Finals after playing half the season on one leg. Lebron had no injuries and was 100% healthy. Kobe was an old man and on his last legs (as it was evidenced in the following season, as it got even worse). Kobe didn't look like he was afraid of the pressure & he certainly wasn't going to be stagnant and just pass the ball around because he wasn't getting the shots he would like, he did everything in his power to win the game.

Kobe showed up in the 4th quarter of Game 7, he made 3 shots, made most of his FTs and made the right pass at the right time to Ron Artest for the three(that won the game) and played solid perimeter defense to close out the game. Lebron got embarrassed by Jason Terry. Ray Allen had a Finals game, where he shot 0/13, Lebron's opposing match-ups outscored him like every game and made him their bitch.

By this logic LeBron's missed shot in game 6 last year (which Bosh then rebounded and passed to Allen) saved Miami. Either they both got bailed out, or they both played great. Your double standards will not pass.

I never said Kobe had a bad series. I was simply pointing out that he played like shit in game 7. No big deal guy, unnecessary rant.

I guess having his 2nd best rebounding game in his Playoff career while also clinching the title with his defense & playmaking is ranked as "shit".

I was wondering why that Barkley game against the Warriors in the '94 playoffs wasn't included. I see he "only" put up 56pts 14rbs (http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/pgl_finder.cgi?request=1&player_id=barklch01&match=game&year_min=&year_max=&age_min=0&age_max=99&team_id=&opp_id=&is_playoffs=Y&round_id=&game_num_type=&game_num_min=&game_num_max=&game_month=&game_location=&game_result=&is_starter=&is_active=&is_hof=&pos_is_G=&pos_is_GF=&pos_is_F=&pos_is_FG=&pos_is_FC=&pos_is_C=&pos_is_CF=&c1stat=pts&c1comp=gt&c1val=50&c2stat=&c2comp=gt&c2val=&c3stat=&c3comp=gt&c3val=&c4stat=&c4comp=gt&c4val=&order_by=pts).

Doesn't fit the criteria. Lots of players had much better games(including the players themselves, excluding Aldridge & LeBron, in that exclusive club).

Damn WTF? Adelman got that team the 2nd best DRTG in the league? I watched them more in 02, and their defense was shit.

There were like 4 Kobe hate threads made right after Houston lost..if they continue to lose Kobe will continue to be talked about more than anybody..

Hopefully it ends so we can discuss the greatness of the newest Kobe Bryant guy Damian Lillard

Yeah, in the 02-03 season they ranked #2 overall in the league. From 99-00 to 02-03, they were a Top 10 defensive team.

In 00-01, they were ranked #7th in defense. In 01-02, they were ranked #6th in defense.

That's crazy. I was only 14 back then so I wasn't really a stat watcher, but I remember the 02 kings getting a lot of shit for their defense from the media. Their relative DRTG those years were -3.4, -3.4, and -4.5.... how does that stat work? Does that mean it's 4.5 under the league average?

ORTG, let's say the average is 105. If the Kings average is say 109, it's a +4. DRTG, same thing (they will be same average always), say it's a 100, it's a +5. ORTG of 109 and a DRTG of 100 equals to an overall Net Rating of +9.

ORTG, higher the better. DRTG, lower the better.

And yes, being under the league average in this case for the Kings means they were much better than the average and other teams.

Their great were for gauging teams, because it takes into account a lot of factors including pace, turnovers, 2pt shooting, 3pt shooting, ft%, etc...

The creator (Dean Oliver) of these stats also said to not use these ratings against players on different teams. I believe you have to use them (individually) to players on the same team, while also looking at minutes per game.

More like LeBron > Kobe. Exaggeration on both sides is what makes this debate annoying bro. LeBron is a better player than Kobe was, but it's close. Kobe was great.
