Note, being on a contender doesn't guarantee rings too when there's like 4-6 teams who have a legit chance...so what is your choice?

I would rather be a star player on a weak team to prove myself, and do all I can to lead a team. I like a challenge also ;)

I'll take that Luke Walton role on the lakers getting like 6 mil a year any day of the week over being a star player on a shitty team (kyrie).

Star player on a bad team. It's better to lead a bad team to contention than riding a team who's already a contender.

Kind of off topic, but how rewarding is it to win a ring as a head coach? Is it more rewarding then winning a ring as a role player?

I'd much rather be a star player on a bad team. Not even close.

Being a benchwarmer on a contender isn't good at all. Benchwarmers on a contender usually make the minimum (or close to it) and aren't even major contributors to their team. On the other hand, a star on a bad team is probably making $10-15 million a year, is the 1st option, gets tons of press, is very well known in his city and around the league, and probably gets all the groupies at home and on the road while traveling with the team.

I think the better hypo would have been... star player on a bad team OR 5th option on a contender.

If I would be a bench-warmer on a contender I would be useless. Star on a weak time I would make the time better and the time would become a contender even though having only scrubs plus me.

I'd gladly be (healthy) Tracy McGrady during his his shitty days with the Magic. I'd consistently rape teams iso-ball. Get to do whatever I want to do on court, and cash fat check after fat check off the court.

Bench warmer in NBA will still make millions while watching a quality game from his comfortable seat. You don't really need more money unless you wanna buy a bigass boat. And there is no pressure on you to perform.

I would love to be Patty Mills waving my towel for Duncan. :lol

"Possibility of a Championship" can't pay for retirement

I would rather be Lebron James than any bench player in the league.

However, since I"m used to a much lower standard of living than he is, I'd gladly take the vet min, and get a REALLY stacked cast around me. Bosh, Wade, and someone like Ibaka.

Yeah this is sort of a dumb question - everyone would prefer to be something (a star on garbage team) than nothing.

Question should be, for example,

"Would you rather be Thabo Sefalosha or Demarcus Cousins?"
OR
"Kawhi Leonard OR Rudy Gay" (can sub in Kyrie Irving for Gay, with all the negativity around Gay nowadays)

I'll take 8 digits on a bad team over 6 on a good team, especially if I get very little run for less money. A championship ring doesn't pay for my retirement.

You're insane and very short-sighted.

A benchwarmer in the NBA makes around the minimum, is usually signed to a 1-2 year deal (which does not set one up for life if that 1-2 year deal is for $2-3 million BEFORE TAXES AND AGENT FEES!), and could easily end up out of the league entirely if something goes wrong or a new coach/GM/President is brought in.

The only time being a benchwarmer may be good is if you're a guy who scammed everyone by signing a long term deal for 8 figures, and decided to do nothing and just collect a paycheck.
