To me it seems that the legacy of Lionel Hollins will suffer a mighty blow. Many people used to consider him an excellent coach, but now clearly the team wins with or without him as the coach. They just got a rookie coach this season and they didnt get any worse.

This is a team that coaches itself pretty much.
At the beginning of the year, Joerger tried to flip the identity of the team to a heavier offensive balance, which didn't really work out too well, and then Gasol got hurt and the team looked done.
Then when Gasol came back they went back to their gritty, tough identity that defined them these past years.
If anything, roster additions to improve spacing and shooting improved the ceiling of this team more so than a new coach.

That they match up well against OKC.

The question is whether Silver is going to hurry the MVP trophy arena presentation if OKC loses both games in Memphis or not.

That one of the best teams in the West was missing its best player for half the year, so they ended up with a lower seed than they should have.

It would prove that defense is far more important than offense. We had a thread on here that proved it. Someone posted the stats of all the top rated defensive teams that won championships while have a low offensive rating.

Memphis is a great team.

That playoffs is a different animal & that Memphis was a great team who had the required tools to figure OKC out in 7 games.

Memphis could give a lot of team fits in a playoff series. They have the perimeter defenders and big men that can score down low.

I dont think it will take Memphis 7 games to take down OKC

Another asterisk year for Lebron? :confusedshrug:

It proves that last year wasn't a fluke.

But so far, it's only one game. And the refs were fair in this one. They weren't in the first game and they might not be in later games.

I don't know what shocked me more in this game, the fact that the refs were fair or that the Grizz were so consistently good throughout the game.

It's only one game though, the knee jerk reaction threads are funny. :lol

What does this have anything to do with Lebron? Seriously if OKC advances to NBA finals Lebron will have an easier road to title than the Spurs or Clippers making it.

Memphis knocking off OKC wouldn't exactly be the upset of the century. They can compete with pretty much anyone. They're a very good defensive team with solid bigs. One of the few teams that can defend well from the perimeter and post.

The only upsets that could be worse in these playoffs are Bobcats over Heat. If OKC loses this series, it's a pretty huge upset.

mavs beating the spurs is clearly less likely than grizz beating the thunder.

Grizz are an artificially low seat due to injury.

It proves theyd easily be in the ECF in the East and would beat either Indiana or Miami easy. They always shut down Lebron and the Memphis are a rich mans Pacers.

In addition to what a lot of people have said about Memphis being really good and better than their record suggests, it also shows that OKC's offense is too iso/chuch heavy.

It proves, OKC lost. :D :D :D
That KD lost and Westbrook can go back to where he came from... HELL!

People acting like the Grizz didn't take the Durant/Westbrook Thunder to seven games last time both teams met healthy, nearly swept the Durant-led Thunder last season, and got to the conference finals.

They're a great team, and have been since 2011.

The Grizzlies won 50 games with Gasol missing 23 games.

Record with Gasol- 40-19
Record without Gasol- 10-13

If you give the Grizz even 5 more wins, they have home court in the first round. Them beating OKC is an upset, but not THAT big of an upset.
