They would be the best team in the East, for the forseeable future. Derrick Rose and Houston are just not built for his talents like the Wizards are.

That team would be very dangerous, but I just checked their salary cap situation and there's no way they can give Melo close to max $ without letting Gortat & Ariza walk. That starting 5 would be great offensively, but weak defensively on the perimeter. Ariza has done a solid job this season on D.

They cannot afford Anthony unless he really wants to go there which I don't think is plausible.

They're at 45 mil and the cap will be raised to 63 or something close. 18 mil to start is about as good as anyone can do other than the Knicks. It might even be as much as anyone is allowed to offer (other than the Knicks) in the first year, not sure about that though.

That's true, but Ariza & Gortat have cap holds that are over $7M each. Also Wiz have options to extend qualifying offers to Booker & Seraphin that are in excess of $3M each. None of those factor into their salaries for next season, but affect cap space. If they let all those guys walk, they can get Melo. I think Gortat is a lock to come back considering he had a good season and they gave up a 2014 1st rounder for him. It's an interesting scenario though!

i think either ariza or gortat would have to stay in order for anthony to decide on the wiz

that or they pick up some good pieces in the offseason

Probably won't happen as the Wiz don't have enough $$$

What kinda player does Melo become?
A ball stopper? Do the Wiz want that, with a developing into a great backcourt?

If you bring in Melo Ariza has been completely replaced so losing him isn't much of a blow. Gortat has value but not enough for a team to pass on Melo if Melo tells them he's willing to sign.

Any team would be stupid to add Carmelo. You literally can't win a championship with a guy like him.

Costs too much and doesn't play winning basketball. He's a cancer. He cancels out Wall/Beal and hogs stats and makes them worse off.

He sucks.

While I agree with you; why would Melo choose that team with a big gaping hole at the 5? If they can find a taker for Martell Webster's contract maybe; but don't see it happening.

Because they still have Wall, Nene and Beal. That's an excellent core and with those players they could well attract a decent vet five. Even if they don't, look at all the success Miami has had without a real center. No one position is indispensable.

Obviously getting KD is a pipe dream in 2016, but it wouldn't be possible if they got Melo. Ariza is such an important defensive piece to this team and Otto hasn't been given enough burn yet to know where he stands. Would it be a good idea to not resign Ariza and pick up Melo instead (since there's not enough cap space most likely for both)? Would it actually improve the team that much, especially since their defensive would take a hit?

Yeah it would be fun to watch. I have always been a fan of Wall and Melo. Seeing them together would be a nice change. Doubt it will happen though.

Moments like these, we are reminded that Lamar Odom is quite one of a kind.

Clippers also have nice pieces around them. We just can't judge what's on paper anymore. That'll be a great team for sure but there's so much room for failure. You can surround Carmelo with just about any team including the wizards and the bulls and it'll look nice.

16-5 to close out the year, it was obvious that JR and Amare weren't right to start the year after knee surgeries. Totally different team when those two guys don't play like d-league scrubs.

Amare had knee problems when the Knicks signed him and JR needed knee surgery before the knicks signed him this past offseason (they say they knew but :confusedshrug: I think they were just saving face )

when you sign injured guys...they may play like injured guys.
