They are an uptempo team with a lot of ball movement. Second in the league in assists actually. How can you be a basketball fan and find that boring?

How can you be a basketball fan and find the Spurs boring? They are extremely entertaining to watch. Guess it's that bandwagon mentality.

Millsap and Teague are a pleasure to watch play. When Korver gets going, he shoots like no other.

Bulls are the only boring team in the league right now to me tbh.

Lou, Teague, Millsap and Korver are all cool.

I actually thought they were a fun team when they had Joe Johnson, Josh Smith, Jamal Crawford and Al Horford all on the same team. They were good too.

Now the Hawks aren't as exciting anymore because they're not as good and their fans... don't even get me started. They just don't show up to games. Their playoff atmosphere last year was pretty bad.

I like Millsap and Teague a lot, that being said, there isn't much hype/worth in following the Hawks, they aren't good enough to make noise in the playoffs and aren't crappy enough to get a decent draft pick, they are stuck in limbo, they aren't "boring" as you say, they are more just not relevant in terms of hype, the worst teams are still getting draft attention if you get what I mean?

Just a common thought, there are some players and teams that used to do something in some way and people stop to follow them and doesn't realize they are not as they used to be. People still think Melo doesn't care about defense for example, people still call Spurs boring etc

That's just the image they have right now, and it won't go away until the Hawks do something crazy, and make, let's say, the ECF. In that way, people will start paying attention, and the media buys in. The Hawks right now are basically the Spurs of the east, albeit on a lower level. But their style of play is no surprise with coach Bud.

Or maybe it's just because people want to watch iso ball, instead of real basketball.

I didn't know such a rumor exists. I just thought nobody cared because they haven't really been relevant since Nique.

People just assume they must be boring because the Arena is always empty.

It's always fun to watch underdogs battle. Atlanta was/is considered boring because of the arena fans though... weakest in the league. I've always felt kind of bad for them watching games. Indy was the same way but a little better now. People can say what they want but fan noise matters. And not the artificial crap like in the Thunder arena (no disrespect to the fans because I think they would be loud on their own but all that artificial noise telling people when to cheer is sad...).

The Hawks apparently have good TV numbers so I don't understand why fans in the arena never seem to give a crap.

Atlanta is fun to watch for me as are the spurs. But as someone posted above they need to update their logo and colors and court.

My guess is that they don't really feel as confident or optimistic as other teams- and just making the playoffs isn't as much of an accomplishment as it would be in the West or for a worse off team. The NBA isn't like the NFL or NHL where virtually every team has the belief that they can go out and win a title. Upsets very rarely happen

I can't defend them too much though. I've watched games where Lebron and Kobe got MVP chants in Atlanta, and that's just inexcusable when you have your own team out there trying their best night after night. And Atlanta lost the Thrashers, so it's definitely fair to say that they don't care as much as other cities do.

I don't think that these Hawks are the same old Hawks with iso-Joe, but I have little long term expectations for them.

How do the people in Atlanta who don't support the Hawks represent the Hawks fan base? Hawks fans are great.

Showing up to a game =/= being a fan. You're saying people have to buy their fan status? They also don't have a large fan base to start with.

Uhhh they did, attendance was rising until like 3 years ago, but then:

-Ownership group sold the thrashers leading to fans not wanting to support the owners.

-Ultimate ass-whooping that the magic gave the hawks, cementing the "2nd round ceiling" status amongst the fans

-Joe Johnson contract removing any flexibility, forcing fans to watch the same unsuccessful team each season.

Their colors and stadium stinks and gives off a sad vibeI admit, it always has felt a little dank when watching games in Phillips Arena (even in The Omni, in fact). The arena itself doesn't lend itself to vibrancy and both of their primary colors are darker forms of common colors (in contrast to, say, the Clippers' brighter forms of the same colors).

Though, there have been a lot of times where I found watching certain teams visually unappealing (feeling like their jerseys are lame, bad colors, etc.) but once they begin winning and doing fun things on-court, suddenly everything begins to look more agreeable. I haven't been able to decide whether that's the case with Atlanta or not.

a 10 year old hockey team that nobody was showing up for getting sold and moved is why Hawks fans stopped showing? GTFO with that noise.

C'mon dude, the colors? You can read a little deeper into the situation than that can't you?

The problem is that Philips Arena is built downtown, in the middle of the predominantly black part of the city, where you'd expect most Hawks fans to be. Problem is, nobody shows up.

The real heart of the fan base is up north of the city in the suburbs. This is why the Braves are moving their stadium north, to be nearer to more fans.

Add on to that the fact that the Hawks have no stars and weren't very good this year, (despite making the playoffs) and you've got a bottom 3 attendance.

I'll be there tonight, hopefully I can cheer loud enough for 3 or 4 people, because I can tell you now that arena won't be full. That being said, Philips really can get loud sometimes. Ray Allen said back in 2007 when the Hawks took the Celtics to game 7 that it was the loudest arena he'd ever been in.

Not having a large and dedicated enough fanbase to fill your home stadium is a sign of a bad fanbase. They do the same thing with the Braves.

I was not trying to explain the team's lack of attendance or why others don't watch. I was just speculating in my own regard. For some reason, the Hawks have always been blah for me to watch, dating all the way back to the dry-colored TBS Superstation Mookie Blaylock squads.
