I had a debate with a friend who said that any NBA player can average over 30 points if given the opportunity to do so. He said that he's not very impressed by MJ's and Kobe's averaging over 30 points because they had all the license to shoot and score. He further said that if you give any half-decent NBA player the license to score like MJ and Kobe had, that player would also average over 30 points a game. :lol :facepalm

If Durant had Kobe's killer mentality , I guarantee he can average like 40pts per game,

in that case we would see more people averaging atleast 20 a game and we dont
every NBA player has there own strength and some folks offensive skill set is trash but there in cuz athleticsm and defense etc.

Not "any" player, but more players could than have. Their increased shot jacking may actually hurt their team, but it could be done more often than it has been.

Agree with this. I can't imagine someone like Perkins scoring that much. :lol

Just imagine if someone like Jeremy Lin is given the license to shoot 30-40 times a game. I think he could reach the 30 ppg mark. The team would suck badly though, so I don't think it would happen.

99% of the bigs can't score 30 a game, unless of course they get 15 dunks every time. :lol

not every nba player but i would say a good portion if given the go ahead can get 30ppg

one the things that people forgot, even the bench warmers in NBA are probably #1 options at some point in their life on some team where getting 30 points a game is not really a big deal.

most guards probably could get 25 with a pure green light

I would say with the right amount of shots even I could. The right amount of shots might be 70, but if I got the ball every trip it could happen. Guys that can't shoot to save their life like perk would have a harder time, but give them 50 shots and it might work.

Scoring 30 points isn't some unbelievable herculean effort, but scoring 30 points on a winning team is an impressive feat.

No. Oj mayo for the bucks is a good example of why not. He had a green light at the beginning of the season. So is evan turner on the sixers. And gordan hayward

No, it actually couldn't happen.

You literally wouldn't be able to get off 70 shots in the NBA unless you heaved the ball right when you got it. Which would result in you going 0-70 and your team losing 216-4.

If you actually tried to dribble or create offense you would turn it over every single time. Literally every single time.

I think I could get 30 points on 40 shots pretty easily.

Technically yes.

But need more license to shoot than Kobe and MJ in order for an average player to average 30.

For the bigs it'll be almost impossible.Maybe the scoring type ones like Love, Cousins, Dwight etc. will manage but the shitty ones never.

I also doubt that non-talented scorers like Rubio could average 30 ppg.

lol @ anyone thinking he'd get a single shot up that aren't fastbreak lay ups in the NBA.

The worst defenders would shut you down, take the ball from you like taking candy from a baby, and dunk on your ass

there have been very few instances in nba history where a scorer who was good enough to do 30 a game for any substantial amount of time just...wasn't able to do so. if a player is that good a scorer his coach is going to utilize him.

only exceptions i can think of are maybe like dr. j, earl monroe and wilt during his later years. but the former was because he was very unselfish playing with selfish players, and the latter two were asked to played in reduced roles. earl monroe especially.

Your friend is very wrong.

The one important ingredients to be able to lead the league in scoring is being able to adjust to how the defense has adjusted to the person who is scoring a lot.

I do often think about how David Robinson decided one night to score as many points as possible and put up 70+ points. But he was a superstar.

There's is some truth that someone like Lebron could league the league in scoring if he just focused on that. The same way Durant and Jordan could score more than their already high average if they had that Kobe Bryant mentality and just went for it.

lebron seriously could if he had kobes ball chucking mentality. Seriously, if he wasn't trying to get his teamates involved so much, and decided to shoot more with having the common hot shooting game, this could be achievable.

No fvcking way any NBA player can avg 30 points. Unless you are talking about a star player taking a diminished role on a good team like Wade. If not, hell no.

On a given night, yes. For an 82 game season at a professional league? Hell no.

But you knew that already.
