View Full Version : Moving from SoCal to Arizona

Myth

Just got a new job that starts in a few months. I'll get to spend most of the summer in California living it up before my move just a little north of Phoenix. I'll get to continue my bucket list of watching a home game for every NBA team. Sad to be leaving SoCal, but this is what makes sense for my career right now.

I'll be 30 by the time the job starts. I'm aware of ASU as a giant party school, but I work within the college system, so not wise to party with the students. Also, I'm bringing my girlfriend, so I'm not worrying about the girl situation unless shit goes downhill in my current relationship (obviously serious as evidenced by her moving with me).

What town? I live in Prescott, a few hours from Phoenix.

I'll probably end up in Flagstaff. I figured most on ISH wouldn't know it, which is why I said north of Phoenix, even though you are likely aware it is still quite the drive. Still, close enough for me to drive to Suns games here and there on weekends.

Oh cool, I lived there for a few years and my Dad has lived in Flagstaff for nearly 20 years. He works at NAU. It's a beautiful town.

What does he do at NAU?

He is in charge of their distance learning/extended campuses (all the NAU campuses not in Flagstaff) as well as most of the online/website stuff.

I love spring and summer weather in flagstaff. My favorite restaurant there is "LumberYard". You and ur girl should check out "Bearizona" as well.

Welcome to the state

Didn't you just move to Cal two years ago? How did you like it there?

Yeah. California was/is great and I'm really going to miss it. I made so many good friends here, and will have some very memorable moments. A nice thing is that most of my friends from Cali were through a co-ed kickball league. In October, they are going to Vegas, so I'll join up with them there. Also, they have an annual kickball tournament many of them go to in Phoenix (February?), so I'll try to meet up with them again at that time. I'll definitely miss California, and my first choice was to stay, but the job opportunities just weren't readily available. I never planned on settling here anyway. Seems like a great place to be in your 20s and early 30s, but too many of the people who grew up here are little bastards. I want a smaller town so my future children don't feel they can get away with shit in a large city with lots of anonymity.

I use to only go up to flagstaff to see football games. My boy was the man on that team.

The rest of the time I was just going on hikes and getting high lol I couldn't ski or snowboard :(

Congratulations. Making a decision of this magnitude can be pretty intimidating, especially when you're not really sure what to expect. Best of luck.

We're expecting a "There goes the neighborhood" response due to my gf being black.

Just think of it this way. Yall are still a LOT better off than if you were moving to a predominantly black neighborhood.

Flagstaff is a very liberal town. It's really nothing like the rest of AZ.
