Dude is a great offensive coach. Turned Lin and Marshall into all-stars. On the flip side he turned Dwight Howard into Tyson Chandler and Pau Gasol into Andrea Bargnani. Yikes.

He just needs a defense assistant to help cover up his flaws.

Anyhow, resigning D'Antoni guarantees that Ryan Kelly is coming back lmao

Depends if hes willing to take a backup role I guess, Zach is a better fit next to Marc so I doubt theyd move him for Pau.

Regardless, hes definitely gonna go to a contender and make a definite impact. Dude got such a hard shaft, no homo, by the mindless bean stans in LA, he deserves better and when hes motivated elsewhere he can help a team thats close without question.

Pau will play in the finals next year. Bookmark dis.

Meh why not? (to D'antoni, not tanking. You only tank if Kobe gets hurt again) Not like we're going to have a contending roster next season anyways, plus Pau is gone too.

I don't understand how Mike D. never gets fired but a coach that saved the Knicks when he quit is fired.

I don't understand how Mike Brown is fired after 5 games after getting the Lakers to the playoffs but this idiot gets to stay on.

I don't get how coaches like Rick Aldeman is highly thought of but then Marc Jackson can't coach.

Makes zero sense to me.

^^^Case in point. Mike D. fails at the Suns. Fails miserably in NYC. Then fails horribly in LA...

But folks want him to take over for a coach that has guided the Warriors to back to back winning seasons in 25 years.

Makes no sense.

Next season doesn't matter. Lakers don't have a pick or enough cap space to reboot.

Soooo... you sign a couple of guys for big salaries for one season (Nick Young, 1 year 7 mill and Pau or XXXX free agent for 1 year 15 mill). Sign Xavier for long enough so his contract expires with Kobe.

Max out Love next off season.

When Kobe comes off the books sign two max'ers to team with Love.

The end.

This. Right now they have zero idea who they can even get in the draft or what they're even going to do. Why jump to any coaching changes? That wouldn't make any sense.

I applaud them for not caving to pressure. It isn't the right time for a coach.

Gasol on the Spurs? That would be interesting. Gasol/Duncan would be very good together.

Who else are they gonna hire? No one will want that job until after Kobe retires, and they reset.

Plus if they draft Exum, Mike D'Antoni is the best coach to work with point guards. He's a miracle worker with them in fact.

Mike D had a good stretch with the Lakers with a Healthy Kobe in the 2nd half of the 2012-13 NBA season, that's the only positive thing about his tenure in LA (28-12 in the last 40 games)

If we get a great player from the draft and get some key FAs & Kobe's healthy, we'll be in the Playoffs next season.

so, the Lakers will most likely be a 4-6 seed given a healthy roster of even a roster old as f*ck

they make a few homerun FA trades or draft picks, and now we are talking Conference finals.

And unless the NBA league is shutdown or locked down after next season, we have Mitch Kupchak...

I go to sleep comfortably as a Lakers fan who thinks that his life expectancy might be longer than just a few years....

There is no way in hell the Lakers are anything more than a 7-8 seed next year. I'm not even saying that to disrespect. It's just when you have Memphis, Dallas, and Phoenix who didn't even make the playoffs then it's not as simple as being healthy. There is no way. It's just the simple fact of the matter.

what moves can the lakers make?? dantonis system needs an ELITE PG..nash isnt that anymore.....kendall marshall??? the jury is still out on him.

nobody knows how kobe is gonna be...u crazy to assume the lakers a top 5 seed...unless they move to the eastern conference

So Lin and Asik are supposed to help the Lakers get into the playoffs?

I can tell you right now Asik will never work in D'Antoni's system. Pau is getting older. Kobe is not going to be the same anymore. The defense will still be trash.

And even if the Lakers do somehow scrape into the playoffs, they'll just get swept by the Thunder/Spurs/Clippers.

Lin is an upgrade over Old Man Nash. Asik is an upgrade over Scrubert Sacre or Hill. Add Kobe, trade for a good PF or SF and draft the other slot, and you have a team.

You're giving too much credit to Asik. He's terrible offensively and also a terrible free throw shooter. The Lakers couldn't cut it with Dwight Howard, what makes you think Asik will help?

And you're also assuming the Lakers have any trade chips to trade away. At this point, the Lakers have nothing outside of their high draft pick to trade away. And we all know the Lakers won't give up that pick because they need to get younger ASAP.

Why are people ignoring the fact that Ramona (a well respected source) and ESPN are saying that no decision has been reached? Laker fans and haters alike are already jumping on either the hate train or :biggums: bandwagon.

I'm waiting until this is for sure before I react with gloom. Losing that many players over a coach to me has me thinking that there's a chance they may decide against it. If they do bring him back though, then wow. Even if you want to tank, no doubt that Jim Buss is an idiot. D'Antoni may turn point guards into something better than they have any right to be but that's never resulted in a championship, nor has the system. Kurt Rambis was assigned as assistant coach to help with defense and that did nothing so it's not as simple as just giving him a defensive minded staff.

He sets great screens and understands basketball tactics pretty well, he's not terrible offensively, just not good at scoring.

He's one of the best defensive centers in the league, would love for LA to have him.
