Spurs fans are so entitled and sensitive.

It's been the same song and dance with the Spurs for the last few years. When things are going well they should get all the praise. When the wheels comes off we shouldn't judge because they are old. You can't have it both ways.

Surely that's the entire concept of overachieving.

So we can't criticize the Spurs at all if they lose in the first round? Finals? Are they just free of blame? Why should they be free of any criticism? Are they not a true title contender in your eyes?

No, of course not. Losing in the first round would be a disaster, and we definitely choked away game 6 last year. I've never said differently (although there's no way Duncan choked when he was the only consistent Spur throughout the Finals).

However, the fact that the Spurs haven't won a title since 2007 shouldn't be surprising. Duncan's prime ended around '08-'09, and Parker is definitely not a superstar, in any sense of the word. Add to that some bad luck and I'd say the Spurs have pretty much gone as far as any reasonable fan could expect them to go, and it's amazing that they've been a top three team in the West without making any real major changes in the past decade.

I can respect this. But I would say last year Duncan and Parker were both top 10 players. Even if TD is past his prime, he was their best player on the court.

that is being soft. i hope real spurs fans don't think like this. the other team made more shots.
kobe played very badly in 2004 or lebron choked in 2011. Are mavs and pistons rings in those years not legit because kobe and lebron playing that badly in those years was a very low probability?

its sad that the spurs depends on a 37 years ginobili...this in not 2005, and they still need that guy in the clutch to save them...where is parker? (the funny thing is manu still clutch...lol)

Parker was on the bench because Pop likes Manu more. Manu has had lots and lots of chances to win games (got stripped in G6 OT to go along with the missed free throw, got multiple chances on the game winner in G1 against GS last year and finally made one after his earlier air-ball). No one's going to hit game winners every time, obviously, but to see Pop benching our best offensive player and the player that can best create his own shot against any defender (step-back jumper, blow-by drive layup, floater, or drive and dish) is ridiculous and shows how hard he is on Parker. That in and of itself isn't bad, but if you think you're going to win championships with your best player on the bench at the end of games is not reality. We needed Parker to have a massive WCF last year to get to the Finals (he was huge at the end of games and in OT), and yet Pop still pulled him in the Finals and now he's doing it again. Not only is it not smart, but it takes away confidence and trust in Parker himself.

They're one of 2 teams to make the playoffs every year during that stretch and have had the best overall win percentage as well as multiple deep playoff runs, so I would say they have been pretty great overall. What team has been as consistently good as the Spurs over the past 7 years?

Manu is definitely imperfect, as every player is, but he also hit what would have been the game-winning layup had Carter missed that shot... Very clutch... Got to trust COTY pop more often than not.

Nah, they wont.

There's no way Mavs will win this series. They are lucky to be up 2-1, even though Spurs played their worst basketball in years.

Agreed. The fact that the current Spurs won 62 games is astounding, couldn't imagine how good they'd be with prime Duncan.

Old man Duncan played the most minutes for SA this season (2,158 minutes).

2004-2007 Spurs would wreck the league for sure. So elite defensively.

im just saying the duncan era was amazing. 4 rings and 4 other times so so close to win it all. that fisher shot was insane, same thing with ray allen three.

best team in the league from 2003 to 2007 and still top 3 team in the league in 2104.

luck is important, and that carter shot, again, was another miracle. they are not winning this series vs mavs beacause of that shot.

You guys realize that there is an entire world out there besides ISH...right?

Nobody believes in the Spurs? They were -1000 to start the series and are still favored to win the series. In fact, they are favored by 4 points tonight. As a point of comparison, the Rockets started the series as favorites against the Blazers and were 4 point underdogs in last night's game in Portland....and 8 point difference.

Nobody believes in the Spurs? What?

Also, LOL at people acting like this Spurs team is at all comparable to the 05 through 07 Spurs.

Those 3 teams would absolutely destroy the current West and, imo, would manhandle the Heat in the finals...depending on the play of Wade of course.

Too much forgetting what happened within the last 10 years.

I swear it gets so annoying with these young fans...I really think they believe that current Dirk and current Duncan represent what kind of players they've always been....:facepalm

You just don't understand the difference having a prime Duncan makes...winning in the playoffs almost always takes a superstar. Spurs don't have a superstar anymore....

Not to mention Parker and Manu were better back then...well, Manu definitely was...especially on defense. They also had quality role players as well. It's not like it was just Duncan back then. They had a legit big 3 surrounded by solid veteran role players. Exactly what you need to win the title...

Give me the 07 Spurs all day.

Duncan/Parker/Manu in 07 was clearly and easily a better big 3

Then it's;

Bowen/Finley/Oberto/Horry vs Leonard/Green/Splitter/Mills/Greeny/Belly

Meh...Splitter and Leonard are solid no doubt, but in all honesty...it's not that big of a difference. Finley, for example, was still probably a better player than Green.

The current team is deeper, but honestly depth is over-rated in the playoffs.

The only one that was close was 2013. They had LeBron looking like a deer in the headlights at the end of game 6 and gave it away.

The others were not close. Losing in the conference semis is not close. The 2004 Lakers actually dominated Game 5 the way the Mavericks dominated game 7. It was the Spurs who were fortunate to be in a position to win.
