7 steps with one dribble on the second step.

Welcome to the future of the NBA. You think 2 steps and a gather is the end of this shit? No, it's going to get worse.

That was about as blatant as I've ever seen. Looked like he was playing rugby out there. That doesn't even look like basketball. I don't care if he took a dribble. How do you get seven steps out of that?

You need to chill. I counted it 10 times. It's seven steps, the dribble leaves his hand after the second, he catches the dribble in between the third and the fourth step.

That angle still makes it look funny. I like to pretend he didn't and just watch it with a mesmerized, puzzled look.

Took 2 steps, dribbled as he took his 3rd step, gathered, took another 2 steps - the 2nd of which was his last before he went in the air.

You can click on the video to pause/unpause continuously and see for yourself.

Or you can just check the 2nd half of this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YDbeR9K9jE
The dribble is at the 0:07 mark

Let's be honest though, with or without Jeremy Lin this fail ass Rockets team was never going to make it out of the west.

in this thread, we have a bunch of non hoopers that think they know how dribbling works.

the steps that jeremy took before he dribbled were legal because he is still in the motion of catching the ball (doesnt have possession). Untill he has clear possession of the ball then you count the steps, but he dribbles it, which counts for like 2 steps he took, then picked it up, then you count those steps, which were 1.5 (you can argue it was 2, but its not "7")
it was legal, which is why it wasnt called a travel, and no other players called for it.

He clearly dribbled and took two steps afterwards...

The problem is, from this view its hard to see if he dribbled or not..I guess if you saw the game, you know if he dribbled or not but from the angle in this footage, it looks like he's definitely beginning to put the ball down after those first 2 steps but its hard to tell if he did or not..I'm gonna assume he did because thats some real high school traveling right there if he didn't....

Why does the thread bother you that much?

It doesn't bother me that much I typed in big letters cause some people obviously didn't read that he did in fact dribble the ball. And then people saying they counted 7 steps:facepalm . Being that he did dribble and did not take 7 steps what's the point in having this thread other than misinform
