Great man. Was a joy to hear him call Heat games aside E.Reid, over the several years that he did. R.I.P

"THUNDER!!" "LEONARDD!!"

RIP Dr. Jack. I moved to South Florida as an 8-year old in 1990 and LOVED him and Eric Reid broadcasting Heat games. I can still hear him saying, ..."entry pass from Hardaway and 'ZO WITH THE STUFFA!"

I didn't get the chance to hear him announce locally, but when he was doing it nationally and was a common face on ESPN, I was a huge fan. And because he was on TV, and there was a natural curiousity as to who he was, my knowledge of his coaching took on a more mythical rememberence than anyone else that predates my basketball outside of the biggest of names. I always enjoyed that they called him Dr. Jack. It gave even more weight to his obvious knowledge.

I'll have to search for the inevitable Bill Walton statement. Walton's respect and love for Dr. Jack is right there with idolotry he lays at the feet of John Wooden.

Very sad news, but at least he had a brilliant life. He got paid to commentate on basketball games. We all do that gig for free on our computers.
:applause: to this man's life.

Sad news, was a great basketball mind. His philosophies will live on in many others though, even in guys like Spoelstra today

Got some chances to listen to his works on the radio before he was out due to illness.

He coached a family friend of mine who was briefly on the blazers and pacers in the late 70's. I heard nothing but good things. Loved the game and helped all the little guys as best he could. Would call around the world to get a guy he liked a job playing somewhere if he couldn't use them.

Rip Doc.

Absolutely one of the greatest basketball minds to ever grace the game. A great person as well.

RIP. I remember when he did color for the Heat games back in the 90's. He was great. One of the great minds of basketball.

Ramsay's first thought in heaven:

Ramsay: Sterling is in for a nice surprise.
Black Jesus: chuckles...

Truly saddened by the news, wow. Blessing to have had the chance to listen to his analysis of the game. Basketball world's just lost an icon. Rest in Peace.

Very sad that this thread slips to the middle of page 2 while there are 5 Donald Sterling threads on page 1.

I was saddened by this news, but it seemed as if Jack lived an exciting and fulfilling life. Props to Portland for honoring Ramsay by sporting perhaps my favorite honorary patch of all-time.
