Anyone remember when this thread (http://www.insidehoops.com/forum/showthread.php?t=98884) had every critic convinced Wilt could only jump 24 inches? :oldlol:

He sure didn't win a lot for playing in such a watered down era.

Looks like if he extended his fingers, they would be at level of the top of the backboard (which other eyewitness accounts have confirmed BTW.)

BTW...is that RUSSELL?

:confusedshrug:

seems about right to me. his head is probably half a foot under the rim. so 7'1 +24"=9"1. Adrenaline from the game probably gave him a few more inches when he jumped.

I agree with the sentiments of my fellow ISHers.

24" sounds about right. Wilt's feet were at Cousy's knees, which is around 2 feet.

He probably had the highest reach ever. He was so long.

Now that's verticality for you.

Judging by that pic, it appears that Cousy, himself, was a foot off the ground, and on his way down...

And really, Wilt was probably not even half way up to his peak in that leap, either.

I don't see a problem with Wilt being able to dunk a basketball over the top of the backboard.

I would certainly find that scenario more plausible than Chamberlain with a 24" inch max vertical.

You do know Cousy is the white dude wearing #14 right? He is not jumping at all. Wilt Stan's are delusional :facepalm

Cousy is not jumping. Do you even know who Bob Cousy is?

Yeah, it's really weird now, they don't even seem to watch the current NBA unless it's to talk about how great Wilt would be today and how awful everyone else is compared to his glory.

A typical "wilt-bashing" comment on the subject of Wilt's vertical...

CavsFan could have posted a documented video with Wilt hurdling the top of the backboard...and the "bashers" would say..."he played against short white people"...

I'm a Russell fan too

You are a Wilt stan who is almost as stat obsessed as gaylauber. You claim you understand the game yet you hold Wilt to such a high standard over Russell who as a less physically gifted athlete achieved more than your boy.

That's because Russell was dominant only on one end of the floor, where as Wilt was dominant on both. I give Russell his due where he deserves it, he's the greatest winner in the history of the game, the greatest defensive player in the history of the game, and has as good a case as anyone - including Wilt - as the greatest player to have ever played the game. Don't be so butthurt that I'm also a fan of Wilt.

I often wonder how much better an athlete he could have been had he had Larry Bird's 28 inch vertical instead of just his measly 24 inch vertical
