View Full Version : MJ said the benefits of the Olympics is to learn about the weakness of his teammates

Jordan said that the biggest benefit for him from the Olympics was that he learned more about his teammates' weaknesses and can't wait to compete against them when they return to NBA.

Meanwhile, Lebron's biggest benefit was building up his friendship with Wade and Bosh so he could later form a SUPERSTAR team with them. Fken pathetic :facepalm .

Alpha and Beta, clearly defined.

MJ > Lebron even if Lebron has more rings, end of discussion. PERIOD.

Must be hard to take knowing a "beta" like Lebron is better now than Kobe has ever been.

Considering the fact that MJ already had Pippen whom Chuck Daly called the Dream Team's "second best player", on his Bulls' team, why would he need to recruit anybody else?

You neglect the fact that Jordan made Pippen. Inspired and worked with him until he became great. Wade was already great when Bron tres with him.

HUUUUGE difference, and that is one of many reasons why Bran is beta to Jordan.

Pippen was a better basketball player than Wade, and was much better suited to be a second option on offense. Jordan's championship teams, in general, were superior to LeBron's teams.

Not surprised...Why wouldn't you learn the weaknesses of your teammates? They were walking all over every team they faced so they didn't have to put any effort towards that....Might as well use the effort to scout your teammates for the real season..

MJ didn't make Pippen any more than Bird made McHale, Magic made Worthy, Shaq made Kobe, or any other veteran player helped a younger teammate become better. Why is MJ the only player in the history of the game to receive these "god like" powers of creation, as if he uniquely turned some bum into a star? :facepalm I wish the thread where I showed how highly regarded Pippen was before the '87 draft hadn't been deleted. This man was a lottery pick during an era where they didn't draft 18 year olds on potential. They drafted upperclassmen who had proven something in college.

Anyways, the OP was about the Olympics. Again, I say, why would MJ have to recruit a star player at the Olympics when he was already playing with a teammate who was so good that he was one of the first five players automatically selected to the Dream Team?

MJ was more interested in his own game (probably because he had Pippen already). Lebron was more interested in other's game.

This can be seen even just by how each player cared about their salary. But lets not forget that Michael helped players got paid they never could have imagined or dreamed of because of his popularity. And Lebron helped smaller role players to take home respectable paychecks.

That's nonsense. Jordan didn't fully MAKE Pippen, but to compare their situation to those others is silly. They play vastly different positions than each other and different styles whereas MJ/Pippen are very similar positionally and stylistically.

I always ask: WHAT ARE THE CHANCES that the teammate of one of the best all-around and two-way players ever ALSO becomes one of the best all-around and two-way players ever? What are the odds? If you think Pippen becomes EXACTLY who he was playing alongside anyone else, that's crazy. Would he still have been good? Probably. Possibly even an all-star. But not the player we knew. No way, no how.

Well... if only Lebron had the caliber of a Pippen (MJ's Olympics/Dream Team teammate), Horace and eventually Kukoc, Rodman to work with and a Phil Jackson to help aswell.... just any, just one of them would have been the best teammate/sidekick Lebron ever had in Cleveland, just one of them could have been the difference between Cavs Finals sweep in 2007 and a championship there instead or at least one or more won games, not to mention the later playoff outcomes aswell.... could also be the difference between staying in Cleveland or leaving.... now having 2 or all of them (including the coach) would be an overkill....

Knowing MJ's ego, how he complained & whined about & on his teammates i doubt he would last as long as 7 straight years with Lebrons supporting cast without seriously pondering about his other options elsewhere as a free-agent....

MJ was indeed in Lebrons situation for the first few years (unlike Magic/Bird/Kobe...) for only 3-4 years though.... then he got Pippen, Grant and saw the potential/growth in them, Pippen become the best teammate he ever had ever since.... by the time he was in his 7th year they won the championship.... so he thought hm.... the supporting cast grew for the better ever since until it became arguably the greatest team of all time....

Lebron in his 3rd-4th year had still Larry Hughes.... some years later got instead Mo Williams, that was his best teammate ever and would have stayed to be his best teammate ever if he would have decided to stay....

You get the point & the difference here? A player of that stature/caliber have all championships as a goal.... it doesnt need to instantly be a championship caliber cast, it can grow upon there, they are patient.... but they NEED to see the steps taken towards that goal, they NEED to see that the organization is working very hard towards that goal before the patience is gone........ Lebron didnt see that in his 7th year, he saw the opposite..... Jordan however did see everything and more.....

mj didn't even win right away with pippen or grant :facepalm dude used to put up amazing stat lines of 6/3/4 in the post-season. i hope you understand that pippen consistently says that jordan was like his big brother who pushed him to his full potential. who did bran attempt to mentor to his likeness? and even on the heat, who is he attempting to mentor now? he just doesn't have it in him.

So when Pippen averaged 9.7 pts/3.0 ast on 40% FG against Detroit in the '89 playoffs, or when he had his migraines in 1990 and averaged 16 pts/42% FG against the Pistons including a whopping 1-10 FG in game 7, with him and Grant a combined 4-27 FG that game (and the Bulls as a team outside of MJ just 23% FG), Lebron would have simply "had faith" in them and believed that these guys were ever going to be able to turn the corner and stand up to Detroit?

You're looking at it with the benefit of hindsight. Jordan in the Summer of 1990 had no reason to believe that those two would be able to help him get past Detroit.

And that is what truly separates Jordan from Bron. Bron is a beast, but let's be honest.... Jordan was worlds better as a mentor and a player.

the style that Jordan has is that he does make a few players better than they would have been by simply just rubbing off on them by his competitive edge and ego.

Bron just gives you open looks, and the opportunity to play team-ball. Does playing more team-oriented basketball makes you a better basketball player? Go ask the coaches.
