only 5 times in the last 16 years has the best player won mvp

heck even in 1998 it could be argued that 28/5/3/46% jordan wasnt better than 27/10/4/53% malone ( but its not all about numbers. unless they favor the voters favorite player right? )

the fact is... MVP has never meant BEST PLAYER... which is why it isnt called the PLAYER OF THE YEAR award

yet why is nash only top 40-50 all time while those 4 guys are all arguably top 10?

Every year bran won MVP he was best player by far

in fact your list is incorrect as Bran was the best in 2008 also while kobe somehow got MVP even though Pau Gasol was the key for the lakers. Kobe was a beta who demanded a trade that season and threw his teammates under the bus publically

i mean really.. does anyone.. including dirk nowitzki, derrick rose, steve nash, or allen iverson .. truly believe that

dirk nowitzki, derrick rose, steve nash or allen iverson were infact the best players on the planet when they won mvp?

cause i dont think any of them could look shaq, or kobe, or lebron in the eye and say it with a straight face

Someone is mad that Kobe only has 1 MVP. Kobe was just never clearly the best player in the league... well he was for 1 year but they missed the playoffs so he was just a glorified Kevin Love.
"Well the NBA is in great hands, but if I had to pick the single greatest player on the planet, I take Kobe Bryant, without hesitation." - Michael Jordan

"Kobe, in my opinion, is the best player in the NBA" - Stephon Marbury
Stephon Marbury on Kobe: "He's the only person on 'dis earth that can do 'dat. He guards people, like shuts 'em down. Then, to do 'dat on 'da offensive end. It's like 'Damn, I can't score on him AND he about to bust my ass.

"Kobe the best in the game right now man. Who better then Kobe?" - Amare Stoudemire

"Kobe is still the best player in the game." - Phil Jackson

"He's the best player alive".- Marc Stein

Lamar Odom said, "It's like God put Kobe here for us to watch him play basketball."

Kobe is the top player in the league." - Jason Richardson

"The MVP should be, when I look at it, I think it should be the best player in the league. Kobe is the best player in the league." - Chauncey Billups

TNT's Charles Barkley on who he believes are the best athletes in the world: "Kobe is the best basketball player in the world."

"If you want to find a player to build around, he's probably it. He's got great size for a guard, he's pretty impossible to defend, and he is hard to score against when he hunkers down on defense." - Nate McMillan

"I'm not saying that he's the most valuable player, but he's certainly the best player. And it's not even close. He is utterly dominant." - Mike D'Antoni

"Kobe is the best basketball player in the world." - Charles Barkley

"It was bitter that Kobe Bryant got injured. His presence alone would have been enough to win the tournament. That's the level I see him on. To me he is the best player in the world right now. That guy doesn't know fear at all. He doesn't care. He would have won it for the Americans single-handedly." - Dirk Nowitzki

"Kobe Bryant is the most talented player in the game today; he could do anything." - Alonzo Mourning

He's the best offensive player in the league, hands down," Bulls guard Ben Gordon

"Nobody can guard Kobe one-on-one. Nobody." - Del Harris

"I see a lot of myself in him. No doubt about it.' - Michael Jordan

Clyde Drexler was asked who the game's top player is today: "I love Yao (Ming), and I love Tracy (McGrady), but Kobe Bryant is by far the best."

"He looked wonderful," said James, who added nine assists and eight rebounds. "You didn't see him go down the middle and dunk? He looked great. I loved having him back. You always want to compete against the very best. That's my favorite player in the game."

"Of course not," James said. "They can never get back to that without Shaq and Phil (Jackson). They still have a quality team. They have the best player in basketball."

Horace Grant kept referring to Bryant as "No. 23," the number Jordan wore. It wasn't a mistake. "I knew what I was saying," Grant said.

"He's the best player in our game today, in my opinion" - Lebron James

"It's hard to guard somebody when he's feeling it. For 10 straight, he was feeling it." It?s always a big challenge battling against the best. - Vince Carter

"At the end of the day Kobe will go down as the greatest player to have ever played the game.""His mentality, his approach -- he tries to seek and destroy. There is really nothing he can't do on the basketball court. The main thing is his will. He is not satisfied with just beating you. He wants to put the dagger in you. I think that is a lost art to a certain degree in this league." - Mark Jackson

"He has no weaknesses." - Al Harrington

you know theres such a thing as overdoing it...

anyone who gets near 40ppg and 10 assists is holding the ball waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay

too much

its like when the lakers lose sometimes when kobe used to get 40-50 sometimes and forgot that other guys needed a rythem

then a lebron fan will say "ya but he had the assists"

well anyone who watched the way lebron played back in his cleveland days knows that it was him dribbling out the clock for either his own shot or a kick out three

he used his team mates as bail outs instead of getting them easy looks or building their confidence. he had to be the last guy to touch the ball to get that assist. he cared more about the numbers

while kobe didnt care if all he got was 5 assists in the box score and pau collected his other 5 from him drawing the initial double with a hockey assist 3rd last man to touch the ball

sometimes you have to get the defense to rotate early in the shot clock for the best possible look at the basket

lebron didnt realize that at the time and it cost his team wins.

i think when it comes down to it you have to take certain things into account. you have to value some things over others, and that is the beauty of the game. i personally love assigning different values to these things, because every day they're different. you could provide me with different ideas and i might adopt them into what makes these things different.

what you brought up is another good point. you might be able to construe things as such but it is never concrete. things are too good to be true when you try to boil things down into black and white. everything has to be taken in context otherwise where have we gone as human beings? nowhere, i say. and that is the dilemma we all face in this day and age, the internet age. everyone is free to debate with everyone else and most of the time everyone is too busy shouting over each other than carefully considering their points. what is the point of arguing for the sake of arguing anyway? no one convinces anyone else and no one takes advantage of a differing perspective, when that is one of the best opportunities to grow as a person.

i think it's high time we listen to each other. we should throw generalizations out the window and instead strive for truth, for i very much believe the scientific method is our one ticket to immortality. once we shed our earthly skin so to speak and become a type 2 civilization, we'll greatly reduce the risk of total extinction. wouldn't it be a tragedy if for all of our technology we end up going the way of the dinosaurs and succumb to the cosmic forces above? when those beings that transcend our dimensions judge us, we would be lumped in with those brutish beasts. i wouldn't be able to stand that and neither should all of you.

This is silly. A Finals MVP doesn't even guarantee you were the best player on your team throughout the playoffs. Finals is just one series and it doesn't guarantee your opponents were the second best team in the league.

There's been plenty of times when the Conference finals had the two best teams in the league.

only 5 times in the last 16 years has the best player won mvp

heck even in 1998 it could be argued that 28/5/3/46% jordan wasnt better than 27/10/4/53% malone ( but its not all about numbers. unless they favor the voters favorite player right? )

the fact is... MVP has never meant BEST PLAYER... which is why it isnt called the PLAYER OF THE YEAR award

Glad to see this thread. I had forgotten that Kobe even exhisted for a minute.

Some years the guys just arent that far apart.

I like it besides the 2009 Kobe mention... 2006? Fine with it. Nash/Dirk/Lebron/Wade/Kobe, take who you want... but in 2009, realistically, not just LeBron but also Wade were better players than Kobe.

And can we agree, if KD goes out in the 1st round here, playing the way he has been, while lebron dominates on 30/9/6+ on 50+% to a 3rd title/finals mvp, that he should mark it off as "best player" ?

06 and 07 were the only years Kobe was best player.

People have a very strong case over Kobe in 00-05 and 08-13.

haha kobe

kobe hitted and hits so many bricks, that you could rebuild every house that hurricane katrina destroyed.

kobe most overrated player in the world.he was carried to all of his championships with super stacked teams and failed in so many clutch situations. he only wins if the competition is about who throws mre bricks.

he has got his "charity" mvp due to his knowledge in the world. thats it.

Someone is mad that Kobe only has 1 MVP. Kobe was just never clearly the best player in the league... well he was for 1 year but they missed the playoffs so he was just a glorified Kevin Love.

The Lakers missed the playoffs in 2006?

News to me man, link?

I would give it to Kobe in 08' but CP3 was better. Especially considering Kobe didn't win the title that year either.
I think KG and Kobe were better than CP3 that year, and I'm a big CP3 stan.

Hard to be considered the best player in the game if you can't win a title with the best team in the league...

TheMarkMadsen

you know theres such a thing as overdoing it...

anyone who gets near 40ppg and 10 assists is holding the ball waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay

too much

its like when the lakers lose sometimes when kobe used to get 40-50 sometimes and forgot that other guys needed a rythem

then a lebron fan will say "ya but he had the assists"

well anyone who watched the way lebron played back in his cleveland days knows that it was him dribbling out the clock for either his own shot or a kick out three

he used his team mates as bail outs instead of getting them easy looks or building their confidence. he had to be the last guy to touch the ball to get that assist. he cared more about the numbers

while kobe didnt care if all he got was 5 assists in the box score and pau collected his other 5 from him drawing the initial double with a hockey assist 3rd last man to touch the ball

sometimes you have to get the defense to rotate early in the shot clock for the best possible look at the basket

lebron didnt realize that at the time and it cost his team wins.

Excellent post

What case does Kobe have over Duncan in '02, other than the fact that he won it all? And, if that is the case, why isn't Duncan the clear-cut best in '03?

Duncan's '02 Regular Season numbers:

25.5 PPG / 12.7 RPG / 3.7 APG / 0.7 SPG / 2.5 BPG / .576 TS%

Kobe's '02 Regular Season numbers:

25.2 PPG / 5.5 RPG / 5.5 APG / 1.5 SPG / 0.4 BPG / .552 TS%

Duncan's '02 Playoff numbers:

27.6 PPG / 14.4 RPG / 5.0 APG / 0.7 SPG / 4.3 BPG / .550 TS%

Kobe's '02 Playoff numbers:

26.6 PPG / 5.8 RPG / 4.6 APG / 1.4 SPG / 0.9 BPG / .555 TS%

Why do people compare the stats of a playoff run that lasted 9 games to a playoff run that lasted 19

Where did he do that at?

And yes for regular season, no for the post season because he was too inconsistent. Duncan was the best player of the 03 playoffs

By calling Kobe the best player in the world in the '03. He didn't make a deep Playoff run, so how can he be (that's the argument you seem to be putting against Duncan for '02).

So, who do you think the best player in '03 was? Not split up between Reg. and Playoffs, the whole year?

When did I make an argument against Duncan in 02. I just said it was stupid to compare a playoff run of 9 games to a playoff run of 19 games because most likely the player who played 9 games is going to have inflated stats compared to a 19-22 game playoff run

Best player in the world in 2003 was Kobe Bryant IMO.

The opinions of Lebron stans and their numerous alts trying to win a popularity contest here on ISH has never mattered. They are as irrelevant as Lebron this year.

The opinions of the legends of the game, the players, the coaches, the GM's all resoudingly pick by majority Kobe over Lebron anyday of the week.

There is absolutely no argument for Lebron being the best player in the league from 2006-2010 - None. He was the MVP (09-10), big difference.

LeQueen stans always overlook the fact that their idol worshiped Kobe. Even in one of Lebron's best years statistically wise, 2009, when he won MVP, Lebron on NATIONAL TV admitted without an ounce of doubt that KOBE was the BEST PLAYER in the league - NOT HIM. However, LeQueen stans will disagree with their idol if need be for their toxic love for man transcends Lebron himself......it's a something that they are defending, not a who.

Just like LeQueen stans can't take away that Ray Allen 3 that saved their idol's @ss and put it in Lebron hands so too they can not take away the opinions from people that matter. This fact burns them inside for they have no understanding of basketball beyond a sheet of paper with numbers on them. LeQueen stans can just attempt to distort the truth in an insignificant internet forum while circle jerking each other to make their effort feel of worth. To summarize, pathetic human beings, retarded behavior.

Kobetards look to others' opinions to justify their pretend boyfriend's place in history (beta), everyone else looks at objective facts, statistics, and watches games to form their own conclusions. Kobetards gonna tard. :lol

IMO the best player award goes like this:

2000-2003 Shaq
2003-2006 Duncan
2006-2008 Kobe
2008-Present Lebron

You could make the argument that Lebron had already passed Kobe in 2007-2008 but I give Kobe the slight edge because of his overall team success. The Lakers were pretty impressive that year.

The majority have formed their own conclusions(opinions). Kobe >>> Lebron. :oldlol: :oldlol:

Are we going to argue the overwhelmly majority of greats that pick Kobe over Bron? Or are we going to sit here and make a user count on ISH were a single clown has like 10 alts each? This debate has been won before it even started. I am however not surprised LeQueen stans still try to distort the reality around them.

The fact is that those conclusions you refer to soundly pick Kobe over Bron. Not sure why you're being contrarian if you agree to this very fact. Illogical but that is to be expected from all LeQueen stans. They all come in different flavors but it's still the same candy: c0ck to mouth with artificial sweeteners.
