The boxing icon and founder of Golden Boy Promotions said Wednesday that he would love to own the team in the wake of NBA Commissioner Adam Silver's announcement Tuesday that he would ask the other NBA team owners to vote to force Clippers owner Donald Sterling to sell the team for controversial comments Sterling is purported to have made about black people.

"The league has made it known that it wants more minorities involved, and as a proud Mexican American, I will bring a different perspective to the NBA in general, and the Clippers in particular," De La Hoya said. "I was born and raised in Los Angeles, I know what it takes to run a successful sports entity and nothing would make me happier than to bring an NBA championship home to Southern California sports fans.

"I applaud NBA Commissioner Adam Silver for his quick and decisive action regarding the Donald Sterling situation, and his forward thinking will push the league toward a positive future. There is no room for racism and unfair treatment in any professional sport, or in life in general. I hope to be a part of positive change for the league."

De La Hoya joins a host of candidates, including Magic Johnson, Floyd Mayweather Jr., Frankie Muniz, David Geffen and others.

In fact, the race for Clippers ownership is becoming similar to the race for governor of California in 2003 after Gray Davis was recalled. Can Gallagher and Mary Carey be far behind in announcing their intentions to buy the team?

This dude is notorious for hating Mexicans/Hispanics. I wouldn't want him anywhere near ownership if I'm the NBA

If Mayweather buys the clippers

Jordan would no longer be the best athlete to own an NBA team :pimp:

Geffen teamed with Ellison, Muniz, Crystal and Penny Marshall would be the best group.

Geffen previously offered one billion for the team and Ellison is a partner of his. He actually WANTS the Clippers.

The latter three are lifelong fans and would do what is needed to build a long lasting dynasty.

I do not want Magic near the team. Mayweather would be fine due to his cockiness and he does have the money. ODLH would be ok I guess as a last resort.
