Who you got in their primes? I think its close I but I would go with Gasol due to defense. Gasol is a much better defender. Pretty much equal as scorers, rebounders, and passers. Slight basketball IQ edge to Walton. Who you got?

It's not close, Walton has only 1 peer in today's era, namely Timi Dunkin (in his glory years). And that one is very very debateable. Not knocking MG at all but it's not close
Walton is one of the all-time greats. ALL-TIME!!

This gotta be a total joke... Right? :facepalm
Walton's a better scorer, rebounder, passer and defender, also more athletic.. There's pretty much nothing that Gasol does better.
Gasol a much better defender? :oldlol: Not even better, let alone much better.
Walton had tremendous impact, something similar to Bird at center, or Bill Russell with slightly worse defense and rebounding but better scoring and even passing. He made teammates better. Dude won MVP, FMVP, would've been DPOY too had there been the award, he was putting up like 19/13/5/1/3.. Blazers were 50-10 in 1978, I believe, and finished 58-24 after he went down to injury. Had he been healthy, he would've won more MVP's, rings and FMVP's, maybe Hakeem wouldn't be top5 center right now.
Check some games/highlights, read some articles, go through all sorts of stats (his and teammates with/without him), awards, understand the impact..
GTFOH with these silly ass threads.

All of these Marc Gasol topics.. the butthurt is strong.
Marc Gasol vs Michael Phelps? I'd pick Marc Gasol.. better defense.
Marc Gasol vs Jesus? I'd pick Marc Gasol.. better defense.
Marc Gasol vs Babe Ruth? I'd pick Marc Gasol.. better defense.
Marc Gasol vs this message board? I'd pick Marc Gasol.. less whining and getting butthurt.

As far as primes go, Walton is probably in the top 10-15 all time.

:whatever:
Walton was great....As a defender.........Offensively, there are players in the league right now that were better than him...
He was NEVER on prime Hakeem's level.
yeah, he really was. Dude was supreme in his days.

Walton was a pretty good scorer with a sweet hook-shot, nice soft-touch around the basket, solid jumper from mid/close, good post-game with various moves (even had the "Hakeem"-fake way before Hakeem), able to reach 70% at the FT line, he's arguably the GOAT passing center, his IQ was just top-notch, knew how to set up any play, whole offense ran through him, he was great off-ball and not only for himself, knew how to set major picks/screens, hockey assists... His impact was tremendous on both sides, check all the stats, watch some games, recognize what his teammates were doing with and without him or the whole team...
Yes he was on prime Hakeem's level.
He was 2nd in MVP voting by his 3rd season and then led a team to a title, he won MVP in his 4th season and would've won DPOY too if the award was already given... Imagine what he would've accomplished without major injuries.

No he's not...Bill Walton was the best defensive player in the league in 78. You have no idea what you are talking about.

Walton was a better defensive player than Kareem.
As far as defense & rebounding is concerned, peak Walton is up their with Russell. Watch the '77 Finals and see Walton out there defensively, he was everywhere.

Hm, probably going too far in the other direction. Gasol is a legitimately great player, 77 and 78 Walton was just unquestionably on a higher level.
