Something that hasn't really been discussed is the other group Sterling slandered.

We all know that he had negative things to say about blacks, but it hasn't really been discussed that he accused Jews of generally being racist against blacks and that Israel treats blacks badly.

I know that this is a touchy issue, but do you think his characterizations towards Jews and Israel played any part in how fast everyone turned on him? I mean, nobody really ever cared when he was only discriminating against blacks and hispanics.

Had it just been another one of his anti-black incidents, do you think the backlash would have been as bad?

I thought about this too. Silver is Jewish himself, and Sterling basically called out Israel.

That might have played a role behind the scenes. In the mass media, the second and extended clip in which Sterling says things about Israel and Jews is not usually included in his racist quote list. Saying things like "Israel treats blacks like dogs" and "a white Jew is worth 100 percent more than a black Jew" was just as bad as the stuff from the first tape that gets all the attention.

There are some major racial issues in Israel, in which some black Jews and just black people in general are looked down upon like the Palestinians. I thought Sterling was actually being protected for a while (should have been long gone years ago before the tapes ever surfaced) and some of his worst quotes generally aren't talked about openly on television or on the radio (attention focused only on some of what he said, other parts covered up). It seems interesting that David Stern did little about Sterling during his time in office (some blame rests on the previous administration too).

Stern, Silver and Sterling are all Jewish, so I don't understand what you're getting at?

You don't think Silver was at all annoyed that Sterling basically said Jews are racists?

Oh. OK. I understand now. A bit far-fetched, but sure, might have played a part in making the decision tougher... (Although I'm always uncomfortable with the insinuations whenever we're talking about judaism)

I do think that the intense media pressure is what basically decided the case more than anything, though.

Well Israel did sell arms to South Africa during apartheid which was prohibited. They also of course allow illegal settlements as well.

Yeah but he's saying maybe the media pressure was more intense because of it. Like you, I think it's far fetched, but certainly not out of the question.

honestly to me it was just how public it was. sometimes something becoming public is a huge factor.

Eg. a politician that cheats on his spouse. everyone of his colleagues might know, even his family might know, but once it becomes out there for the twittersphere to comment on, there is added pressure to denounce and reject him

Eg. spitzer's wife and him divorcing. You really think she didnt know and wasnt tolerating it for the chance at being first lady of new york and maybe eventually first lady of the us?

Don't know what you're talking about, Omri Casspi has been wearing his jersey inside-out ever since and is quietly waiting for Silver to make a decision. it's just that his team's season is already over so no one is there to see him.

Back in Israel this is trending actually.

You don't know if she knew and neither doesn't anyone else on this board. One of my biggest pet peeves is when people claim to know something that they really can't know..

players threatening to boycott .. sponsors pulling out .. public pressure .. that's why he did this .. none of that would've happened if there was no 'black part' in that tape .. .. if it was only about jews, it wouldn't have hurt business ? .. blacks don't give a shit about that .. but wait .. sponsors could've still possibly started to pull out since I'm sure some of them have jewish heads .. hmm .. I don't know

He didnt say "Jews" tho.

He said "In Israel."

Israel is a country. Jews are a people. Not every Jew lives in Israel.

He also gave his apparent personal feelings on "how jewish" different races can be. But he actually didnt anywhere generalize the feelings of jews. He made a personal generalization of israel and then a personal opinion on jewish identity. He never typecasted the entire group.

As Don Corleone would say "Never talk about the family with anyone outside of the family."

The Jewish mafia runs deep and are very strong here in Los Angeles. Yes it could have something to do with it. We still don't know what else Sterling said on the "100 hours of tapes"

Don't equate Israelis with Jewish Americans. Two totally different groups.

The Jews have been living in a region surrounded by countries who's religion is all about exterminating them, and yet, here they are. They are the most resilient of any race/religion, and thrive everywhere they go.

Israel is awesome.

I'm glad someone pointed this out. There may be some crossover but the two are different as fcuk...

You think Israel's resilience is what allows them to survive there? :oldlol: That's a really good one. I'll have to remember that one to tell my Jewish friends, they'd love it too.

Israel treats blacks and Palestinians despicably, this much is common knowledge for anyone who does their own research. They recently gave a large number of female Ethiopian immigrants a jab which kills their chances of reproducing without telling them.

in the mass media and running all the way down to pinhead bloggers, any criticism of israel almost reflexively gets conflated with antisemitism. it's unbelievably consistent. and that goes doubly so for sensitive jewish elites with the power to respond. if the op is right, which i highly doubt he is though who the fk knows, those semantics would be totally irrelevant to the nba's decision.

Like they care at all about any of that. It has nothing to do with it.

It's all about money. Nothing else. The Clippers are worth an enormous amount of money and they want that moron owner out. That's what it is about.
