Or have other SGs shown that they are better when it counts and defences tighten??

Ellis, Johnson, Derozan???

According to many on this forum, he is the best SG. But I said Ellis and Wade were better at the start of the season and got burnt for it.

you deserved to get burned for it. Harden was playing like the best sg in the league during the regular season.

Harden was nothing but a ref made star in the regular season, its quite easy to score that many points when you are the #1 option and jack up threes on fastbreak because you play no defense

Harden averaged 25.4 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 6.1 apg, and shot 36.6% from 3. Here's a list of other players to do that since 1980:

I think healthy Wade is better. Harden is the best offensive 2 guard. Explosive scorer. He's like the opposite on the other end though. Lazy defender.

He is not a SG

He plays PG on the Rockets 80% of the time,

So the answer is no

Depends how much of a negative you count his defense.

Stats wise I can see why people though so, he only plays offense so if you account for defense as well then I can't say he is #1

Regular season

Yes, he was the best shooting-guard in the NBA over the course of a full 82 game season. Unless you count 1 round of playoffs as the end all be all when it comes to determining who's the best at their position?

If you believe defense is important to being a SG he's at best a top 4 SG.

Playing on both sides of the ball is important, I would give him a pass if he tries a bit on defense, but he straight up doesn't care, I can't let that slide in my book, that's not team ball.

Yes, but only because Wade is too unhealthy to be considered the best. Once Wade retires we will be entering a very weak era for 2 guards. :(

The one who came up big in the pivotal g7 of the nba finals

Harden was better than Kobe last year. Led a less talented roster to a better record. Put up similar numbers, both suck on defense.

On paper he is. Anyone who actually saw him play and isn't a complete retard knew he wasnt. He's a guy who got his at the expense of the rest of the team. Playing no defense at all and playing hero ISO ball on offense or getting bailed out by the refs.

It's no surprise that he's sucking hard these playoffs when defenses tighten up and refs allow more contact.

You criticize Harden for not playing defense but you think Kobe (who was just as bad last season) was the best SG in the NBA? Lol.

Then you'd realize he was garbage on defense last season. On par with Harden this year. So how come you consider Kobe as the best SG in the league last season, but not Harden this season?

Regular season
Yeah regular season really matters. If you do good then you get to the playoffs and get a chance to win the nba championship.

James Harden was awesome in the regular season. 25/6/5 and also added about 2 steals. The only problem he had was he just couldn't play defense but other than that he was great.

Right now in the playoffs hes been playing horrible.

Yup.

Especially since he was allowed to do whatever he wanted this entire season b/c of McHale. Exposed.

Your team needs to run through Lin and Howard today, or this series is over

21/5/5 on 57 TS% is better than 27/5/6 on similar TS%? That's news to me. Also, if you're going to say "other SGs have shown they are better when it counts" then you'd realize Wade completely disappeared in the first 3 rounds of last year's playoffs. Averaged 14/4/4 on 44% FG.

Harden was the best for a little while, but his ill advised shooting and horrid defense after Sampson left, he is no longer the best. I'll go so far as to say he's thr 5th. We get a new coach that's gonna make that hoe play defense and he'll be the best again.

I would take Harden over Wade.

Monta gets the nod over Harden now because he's performing better in the playoffs. People overreact during the regular season.

I still think Harden is number 1.

When he gets 10 free throws in a half he's good.

If not hes what you've seen this series.

This would be a fitting end for this series honestly...Harden playing his ass off in a loss while he was garbage on both ends the previous 5 overall...

And LOL...Harden is better than Ellis, although Ellis has clearly been better in the playoffs...

Still thought he played well tonight. Should have played that way overall in the series. I think most would still take him as the best SG going forward.
