I don't get it, why is he guarding the inbound there's no time for him to get the ball back. He should be looking to help and deny anyone cutting toward the ball, especially wide open like Lillard.

The players guarding him aren't going to expect Lillard to just sprint without any picks or anything, so they aren't going to be running as hard as him because they want to be ready to weave around the picks however he knows that all he needs to do is run as fast as he can to his spot. Actually a really smart play.
