What reasonable players would solidify the roster into a contender?

Consistent shooters and more confidence at the free throw line.

Get a closer... someone that can create their own shot...Rudy Gay?

They needed a beast to throw it down low to in Game 7.

Should go look for one.

Teach gasol not to choke

Players that are too smart to get themselves suspended for a Game 7.

But seriously. They have a pretty solid team with minimum weaknesses. Still, the need for a dynamic scorer on the perimeter is necessary in the West.

Tell ZBo not to do something stupid enough to get himself suspended, for one.

Stop choking and learn basketball basics like how to shoot outside of paint.

Pau off the bench.

nothing, a player like jet or nate could be a spark of the bench to stop their offensive draughts though

Stay healthy and don't commit flagrant fouls.

Stop playing progressively dumber as the game goes on and learn to shoot the ball.

Offense. Maybe pick up some more shooters in FA, but idk how much Z-Bo has left.

get a go to scorer.

Ironically enough they need someone exactly like Rudy Gay.

Wing player who can create his own shot.

Sacramento Rudy though, not Toronto Rudy.

Definitely a closer but as others mentioned don't do stupid things that handicap your team (Z-Bo) that took the one advantage they had out of the game

Sell the team to Seattle/Vegas/insert a decent city here. Your logo, arena and uniforms are ugly, your history (what? :lol ) is Gasol brothers and nobody wants to live in memphis.
You will never even dream about being contenders and Jennings>Conley.

Mentality of a winner vs mentality of an underdog.

And a superstar but they won't be getting one of those anytime soon. They were a good team this year but another shooter or scorer would help.

How much of a difference would calathes have made?

Hope Rodney Hood or James Young falls and get a ball handling scorer off the bench. Maybe Lou Williams?

Few shooters couldn't hurt...Pondexter was great for them last year vs SAS as a 3 and D guy. They probably need all the spacing they can get since Allen and Prince are near zeroes offensively. Lee and Miller were great additions, though. Wayne Ellington could've filled the 3 and D role also.

Another guy who can slice into the paint, make plays and draw fouls would be tremendous for them, to take some pressure off Conley. OKC-era Harden would've been perfect for them (not quite a Memphis-caliber defender but he wasn't as bad in OKC as he is in Houston since he had more energy/effort for defense in OKC than HOU)

lol @ people suggesting black holes like Melo and Gay would help them. They obviously need more shooters in the lineup and bench. Maybe it's time they moved on from ZBO and got more athleticism in their front court. I love Conley but if they want to improve their scoring the easiest way to do that is with a scoring guard. Probably coincidental but many of the teams left have explosive scoring guards.

get rid of choking fakkits and try to avoid the thunder in the first round.
the rigging will be just as strong next year and jackson will be even better to carry durant

They've tried Gay and Mayo as their go-to guys and it didn't work well. Zach & Marc are booked for $15+ and $15+ each next season, so they'd have to get rid of one if they want a Melo-caliber go-to guy.

If they keep the same core, I think they need a back-up PG distributor who can shoot 3's, a wing defender with shooting range and a stretch forward.

Something like this. Bold are new additions.
PG: Conley / Farmar
SG: Lee / Allen
SF: Barnes / Mike Miller
PF & C: Randolph & Gasol / Marcus Morris or any cheap stretch forward.

Don't punch people in the neck... Zach Randolph is fool's gold.

Their only chance is to file complaints about the officiating.
