The NBA's best player wins it every year and never a cinderella team. Look at the history of NBA champions. Frauds will be filtered out.

I still don't have a definitive answer on who's better between KD and Lebron. Regular season points to KD but the playoffs have me thinking Bron so far.

Not necessarily for example Kobe was the best in 08 and lost and Lebron in 2011.

Didn't Durant have an 8-24 game against them? :oldlol:
They also held Paul George to 2 points in a game so...

Tell me why Durant shit the bed vs the Wiz. Is it because they are a shitty east team? :confusedshrug:

Lol @ painting the Bobcats as a defensive juggernaut. The 7th and 8th seeds out West would have raped their souls.

Saying that they aren't a great defensive team is egregious also.

of course lebron is looking better, he played against a young team with their star crippled

meanwhile kd played against an experienced squad that would make the finals in the east

Lebron played the bobcats FFS its a walk in the park for him and the heat.......
Atleast KD COMPETED in the first round.

Playing against a team that has been moving around six feet below the ground since Day 1 of this season while Durant having to face one of the best defensive team of the league while being guarded by one of the better defenders we have!

Yeah, LeBron does look like the better player! :confusedshrug:

Dirk & company weren't on everyone's radar in 2011 nor was he the best player in the league...

Dirk & company weren't on everyone's radar in 2011 nor was he the best player in the league...
... and yet they took the championship away from a team who had arguably the best player on the planet that time! :D

If you got Dirk as best player in 2011 you're def not far off..

While the OP isn't correct because it's not definitive like that, the idea is pretty much right. Top talent generally wins out in the end. There will always be exceptions but in basketball, you'll never see a team like this year's Hawks or Bobcats make it far.

One player can have a huge effect on a game because he'll be in there for ~40 minutes and likely have the majority of the offense go through them. That kind of a sport in a 7-game series will very rarely lead to genuine upsets.

Not only is it false to say what OP says (I see others brought up the '04 Pistons - that was the first one I thought of as well), but it's kind of annoying how we talk about a "player" "winning it"... a player has never one a championship. That is what teams do.

I don't think OP actually meant every year, he's just using figure of speech. And he's absolutely correct that the team with the best player wins it all 90+% of the time.

*Best player doesn't always have to be undisputed best player. 2011 is a good example, LeBron was probably the best overall player but Dirk was the most efficient and best playoff player.

Since 1991, the only teams to win a championship without a "*best player in the league" are the 2004 Pistons, 2006 Heat and 2008 Celtics. Pistons and Celtics were also two of the deepest stacked teams of our generation.
The 20006 Heat are probably closest "Cinderella team" to win it all, they came out of nowhere and Wade wasn't an established superstar yet.

12-13 - LeBron, best player
11 - Dirk, the best playoff player and most efficient player of the entire season
09-10 - Kobe had a good case as the best player
99, 03, 05, 07 - Duncan was co-best player in those years
00-02 - Shaq, no explanation needed
94-95 - Hakeem - best player in those years
1991-93, 96-98 - Jordan, the GOAT

So the last 23 championships, 20 of those 23 had the best player in the league. 2 of the 3 that didnt have a best player were the best team. the 2006 Heat is only case for a Cinderella team. Considering that Wade is a first-ballot HOFer, who's to say a team of Wade and Shaq were Cinderella. That's even an iffy.

Another further more example are the 2010 and 2013 Finals. In the 2010 Finals series, nobody knew which Celtic would be the MVP if they won. While the Lakers it was clearly Kobe. The 2013 series, same thing, nobody knew who would be MVP for the Spurs if they won. While the Heat was clearly LeBron.

Just compare the Finals MVP to the Super Bowl MVP and World Series MVP. The Finals MVP is loaded with HOFers, while the Super Bowl and World Series MVP have had many many role players winning the award.

Basically, NBA is a 75% superstar/25% team sports league.

The 2014 champions will be either be the Heat or the Thunder.

Any other team would be considered a surprise and an upset.
