I find a deal on an x240 for $760. Need a new laptop because mine is dead but I don't want to break the bank. How is this laptop?

what are you trying to do with it

Do word processing for side business - would like a nice keyboard.
Surfing the internet - little worried about the screen
Excel - have to be able use this
linux - I'm interested in trying this.
Battery Life - I like to work away from home and don't always have access to an outlet
Dock- would like to dock and connect to two monitors
Good build Quality - would like this to last for a while.

I plan on upgrading the ram to 8 gbs right away.

pretty much any computer can do all of this, so go ahead. why do you want to try linux?

Laptops are terrible investments. Anyway that's a pretty steep price for those specs.

It's definitely not a gaming laptop, but will suffice if you just want to watch movies or Facebook, email, etc

I was thinking the same thing. I did go ahead and buy it but I can prob still cancel. I was banking on x name. They have great keyboards, battery life and build quality. That is enough for me. I almost went for a mac or yoga 2 pro but didn't feel like paying twice as much, plus I can easily upgrade the ram and ssd.

Why are they bad investments?

Idk, battery life isn't as good on other laptops and keyboards are also inferior. I'm often commuting and need a good battery.

Linux seems cool. Less bloated than windows and hopefully it won't slow down like Windows does. Seems really easy to install on a lenovo machine as well.

Well they eventually die without being able to recoup any of your initial investment. On top of that they have a poor price to performance ratio, limited upgrade potential, and servicing them is costly.

That being said, yes Lenovo is a good brand.

bought the lenovo flex 15 for $240. cant go wrong with lenovo but $760 is a bit much, i saw the lenovo g5050s on sale today for 475ish, with an A10 processor.

I'm starting to think this I a bit pricy as well. Rep told me it was an IPS panel and now that I look at the site they all usually state whether it's IPS. Idk, if it isn't IPS then I'll be back looking again. Def not paying that restocking fee tho.

Guess Lenovo is the only other brand I'd buy other than Apple at the sub 1000 dollar price point.

Asus makes excellent products, but they are not known for customer service so it's best if you know what you're doing.

I cancelled that order because the sales rep lied and told me it was an IPS panel. Going look at these today. Thanks.

you wont need 8 gigs to do what you want to do. it's probably better to use that money and upgrade to a full SSD hard drive, you will notice speed boost immediately more than what you would see from the ram.

Thanks. Just re-ordered. Got this system for 906 after tax. Maybe not the best deal I really wanted something durable since I've historically been hard on my laptops. Plus, I like the idea of being able to upgrade my SSD to 500 gb if I feel the need. Just sucks that the HD display is so much more. It was a $330 upgrade/

I feel that 8GB should be the standard for most laptops today. Regardless, it's a lot cheaper to upgrade it via third party.

its cheap and it can't hurt. I'm going to put Linux Mint on there and it may need it?
