There was some talk/rumors a couple years back about the Clippers possibly moving to OC/Anaheim. Possibly the Honda Center, although my guess is the Honda Center is probably too small. Anyways, some new talks about moving the team to Orange County have started, with the idea now being to build a completely new Arena.

Nah, we're good with LA and Staples.

We don't need a new arena, just a new owner.

50% of the Clippers' appeal is that they play in Los Angeles. Zero chance they move.

Staples and Honda Center are 30 miles apart, they'd still call themselves LA.

Clippers signed a 10 year lease extension in 2013.
They are staying at Staples Center till 2024.

They would probably do something like the Angels did.

The Los Angeles Clippers of Anaheim or the Los Angeles Clippers of Orange County.

I don't think the lease matters if the team is sold.

The Clippers aren't leaving Staples any time soon.

It would matter, but there's probably a buyout clause. And the new owners might want to get out of the lease because the Clippers are basically second class citizens in Staples Center

They have a tiny locker room compared to the Lakers and Kings and the Lakers get priority when it comes to scheduling games. So the Clippers always end up having to play games on New Year's eve while the Lakers get basically every Friday night

Didn't the Clippers used to play in the duck pond a few years before moving into Staples. Don't see why it would be an issue to move back.

So when the Clippers were mediocre, they refused.

Now they are balling and should accept it?

Would be idiotic. Might as well move them to Lancaster or Simi Valley

If they do move to OC, shouldn't they change their team colors to,I don't know.... Perhaps orange?

ive been saying Henry Samueli should buy the clippers and move them to orange county. He originally wanted to buy the sac kings, but it didnt work out.

1. orange county is a HUGE community, with more than enough fans to fill seats. and thats not counting LA fans who would still support the clips

2. when the rumors of the kings coming to anaheim started, the mayor of anaheim already green lit the idea that anaheim is willing to shell over 20 million in order to make improvements to the honda center

3. the clippers coming to orange county just makes sense. youd have the lakers, dodgers and kings in LA. and have the clippers, angels and ducks in anahiem/orange county. the marketability of those rival cities would you extremely fruitful

And the Clippers have been proven to be a profitable organization even while being the laughingstock of the NBA while in Los Angeles, and the profit margin is only greater now.

Why risk that to move to a different area that may or may not be able to continue the increased profit margin, or even an area that may not be in the green if the franchise were to return to mediocrity? Wouldn't be a smart business move.

Honda Center is also mediocre compared to Staples. I was there for the Big West Tournament and it left a lot to be desired. Though it still trumped whatever the Suns arena is called now.

I'm still thinking that Seattle group that lost out on the Kings is going to be back in the picture in a couple years...

Of course it does, the lease is between the team and the arena. The new owner must honor all existing contracts.

They'll never build it near the great park, it's mostly residential. At the Irvine Spectrum they have land to build around it- build something like the Nokia Live area. There's an outdoor concert venue there already but it's super old.
