Quick 2 minute video on different businesses Shaq is cashing in on. I knew he had a lot of businesses but wasn't aware of some of these ones. Think of how much of his money is his old money still.

i believe he was taking his salary directly to his savings to collect interest all the while he spent his endorsement money on whatever else, over his contracted years.

also, i did hear he had initial spending issues and someone quickly got a hold of him, and corrected those concerns

Shaq's smart though...he's not going to wash it away like many irresponsible athletes have done, glad for him

oh please...

Many people have made money playing sports. Shaq was smart with his money. all that endorsement money he made from the get go, it's never stopped and it's been 20 years already. His payless and walmart Dunkman shoes were the best sellers in the entire world. They weren't $100 a pair but made him a ton of money. Five Guys Burgers, 24 hour fitness, various projects we never hear about. Car Washes, His own line of "you name it".... Shaq is a role model to other nba players, we need to applaud the ones who get wealthy and make a real impact because it's a shame that so many athletes go broke. Shaq says he learned from Magic and all the moves he made.

Yeah I heard that story many times over the years. Supposedly he has never seen a penny of his NBA salary, he never touched it and has played with house money from day one. There is another video of him talking about how he blew a million dollars in a week when he first got money, you could probably dig it up online it's a couple years old.

Allen Iverson's butt got saved. He's got 30m from Reebok that hasn't even started paying him yet. I think it kicks in at a certain age and is spread out over many years, set up as a retirement type of fund. a friend of his told him to do it so he wouldn't go broke, so despite all the things we heard about AI over the years, he still has that money coming to him.

You gotta respect someone who capitalizes on his assets to make money (I personally wish he worked more on his potential during his career lol).

Dont forget either his business ventures and investments probably created more jobs and made other people money, as a by product of his work.

What's funny (or sad) is that it's so much easier to get richer once you already are rich than it is to break into the "rich" category being a nobody. All NBA players have to do is save a big chunk of their money and then find a high profile investor and then they are set for life.

anyone with a 10+ million nest egg lol. It's more ridic that these dudes can burn through that kind of money. Even bench warmers in the NBA should be set for life if they invest wisely and live within their means.

But lol at effort being the key to becoming rich. To become rich... I mean there are positions like the NBA where it is a direct competition, but then in life there is also competition for the money... except not everyone plays that way. Meaning, the competition is 'outside of the lines.'

If you think of money and assign an equal dollar value to everyone (not exactly how it works, but I think it's closer, at the core, than you think) then you realize in order to get rich you have to continually usurp other people's money and collect it for yourself. Some people just don't do that.

But the good thing about sports is that it is what it is. The best competitors get the money. GG. The rules are set.

There's no such thing as "deserve". That would require the existence of some entity who has the authority to decide what's appropriate or inappropriate.

He doesn't have that much money lying around. In fact pretty much all rich people don't have more than a few million in cash in their hands; almost all their wealth are tied up in assets such as properties and stocks. Which is a good thing because cash loses value quickly and gets taxed a lot.

If you guys want to know how to get rich, you can get a copy of How to Get Rich by Felix Dennis. Absolute best book on the subject.

Come on man, then what's the incentive to make something truly great? To oversimplify an issue, computers wouldn't have developed to the point they did if Bill Gates didn't have a vision. So what, he only deserves $1mil/year max? It's arbitrary and doesn't make sense.

from a Facebook post

Shaquille O’neal’s long career in the NBA has yielded quite a few dividends for his life. Clearly, he’s become wealthy, but it might not have been that way were it not for some meaningful intervention. An article on TimeToFocus.com describes it accurately by stating that Shaq spent his first million dollars within 30 minutes of joining the league.
This led to a call from Shaq’s banker, who warned him to get it together or end up broke like so many other former athletes. As a result, O’neal decided to become educated in money and finance. He went back to school and got both his bachelor’s degree and MBA. He eventually got his EdD, making himself Dr. Shaquille O’neal.
Now, according to TimeToFocus, Shaq’s financial life is flourishing:
As of today, Shaq is the joint owner of 155 Five Guys Burgers restaurants, 17 Auntie Annie’s Pretzels restaurants, 150 car washes, 40 24-hour fitness centers, a shopping center, a movie theater, and several Las Vegas nightclubs.
In addition to his business holdings, O’neal still earns $22 million per year (roughly $423,000 per week) from his endorsement deals with Arizona Creme soda, Icy Hot, Gold Bond, Buick, Zales, and at least a half dozen additional corporate sponsors. He is also a studio analyst for TNT.
In Shaq’s own words, “It is not about how much money you make. The question is are you educated enough to KEEP it.”

how much would be his net worth if he wasn't gifted genetically? let's say he's just a regular black man.

would he have the money to go to school and get his MBA? would he even finish his school or have some banker advising him?

ppl don't realize it, but it's easier to grow richer when you have the money to invest. most people's problems start with how to get that break to get over the hump. ofc there are losers that blow their chances when they get into some big money. but most ppl never get the chance to get over that hump.

even the rags to riches stories always have those people getting a big break to start them off. luck plays a part. not just hard work and perseverance.

deja vu

I don't think anyone pushes the idea that getting rich is PURELY hard work. I think it's generally accepted that you CAN get rich through purely hard work, but most rich people got there through a combination of luck/circumstances and hard work.

when you have lots of money making more is not a matter of being smart, it's a matter of not being a dumb ass.

with the amount of areas in need of investment now a day you just have to make the right choices, or hire the right people to make those choices for you. And there's plenty.

needless to say, shaq also had popularity to go with him, many of his "endorsements" also included a marketing campaign in which he was featuring, which kind of put the endorsement in a secure spot for the company seeing as shaq is famous world wide.

from a Facebook post

how much would be his net worth if he wasn't gifted genetically? let's say he's just a regular black man.

would he have the money to go to school and get his MBA? would he even finish his school or have some banker advising him?

ppl don't realize it, but it's easier to grow richer when you have the money to invest. most people's problems start with how to get that break to get over the hump. ofc there are losers that blow their chances when they get into some big money. but most ppl never get the chance to get over that hump.

even the rags to riches stories always have those people getting a big break to start them off. luck plays a part. not just hard work and perseverance.

This is a terrible post.

well deserved, one of the greatest talents of all time.

He is unlucky though that he didnt get to beat up on weak 60s competition and for that reason some people dont rank him as highly as they should.

When you save and invest smartly (you don't have to be super lucky or a finance expert), money is a great tool for making more money.

Good on Shaq for using that to his advantage. Also, it's not like he's spending all his net worth on personal luxuries as he pisses on poor people. He's investing it in business that help provide jobs and services for other people and even the money he spends is helping support businesses and other jobs. You occupy people need to get a grip.
