What are your top 5 albums? If you can do a top 10, that'll be cool. Everyone has different tastes, and there are a lot of good albums out there many of us haven't heard. I would like to hear andgar's list. Dude seems to know his music.

Nickelbacks "first five" are the equivalent to the "first five" of the bible. They are some foundational shit. Musical torah.

No thanks. Not a huge nickelback fan. I'll listen to anything other than boy bands.

I'm not creating this list as a definitive top 5, merely a personal one. There are so many classic albums in our history and so many albums that were significant to their respective genres, so it is impossible to make one that takes all things into consideration. So these are more so my favorite classics..

Anywho..

1. Michael Jackson, Bad

2. Nirvana, Nevermind

3. Stevie Wonder, Songs in the Key of Life

4. The Beatles, Let It Be

5. Miles Davis, Kind of Blue

I feel you. Nickelback can be a little "too heavy" for people who havent acquired a taste for that real pure shit just yet. Try something a lil more accessible first thatll serve as kind of a stepping stone toward that really hard, gritty, intense sound of musical epiphany.

I recommend trying Jonas Bros debut album, It's About Time. Its complex and layered, but with a vibe that doesnt make the listener ever feel as if hes strayed too far from home. It's similar to a Guns n Roses sound but with a little more versatility and instrumental mastery.

Good luck bro

Used to be a big fan of Nirvana, but Nevermind is kinda overrated..

Historically and culturally it's up there, but the actual quality of the album isn't top 5 worthy, or even near it IMO.

Let It Be isn't even in the top 5 beatles albums.

A top 5 list for all music of all time is a wild idea anyway.

Smells Like Teen Spirit is probably one of the weakest tracks on Nevermind. I have no idea how it's the most popular. Great album, but Nirvana live is more interesting to me than their studio stuff.

I'm trying to diversify my musical taste. I'm prob going to check out most of these albums except for Jonas f*ckin brothers recommended by Arkozatile.

Thanks but mine are pretty standard I suppose.

My list would be different depending on which kind of lists it is (objective or subjective.... YES there can be a difference).

In no order my subjective list.....

Dark Side of the Moon
Wish You Were Here (yeah... huge Floyd fan)
Kid A
Amnesiac (yeah... no surprises huge Radiohead fan as well)
Like Water For Chocolate by Common (thought I'd throw in a rap album)

Of course, the list can change on any given moment. But Dark Side of the Moon will always be there. Depending on my mood I'll replace either of the Radiohead albums with In Rainbows which imo is one of the top 5 best albums this decade (if not THE best).

I love the 60s and 70s, all had great albums. Very hard to select ones that I'd take with me on a deserted island. But those are the gun to my head selections.

Objectively I'd have some Beatles on there (naturally). Abbey Road mod def makes the cut, then it's a toss up between Sgt Pepper's due to its impact on music, or Rubber Soul and Revolver.

I don't know too much about jazz so I can't comment on it.

My dark horse left field selection will probably be Furious Angels by Rob Dougan. Original classical compositions with breakbeats. Highly underrated artist everybody should know.

I should probably have more hip hop.

Can't go wrong with Illmatic, 36 Chambers, Midnight Marauders.

Yeah I know there are all standard selections, but they're great for a reason.

My 5 favorite so I guess what I'd consider "best":

Born to Run - Springsteen
The Queen is Dead - The Smiths
Bon Iver, Bon Iver - Bon Iver
Be - Common
Here, My Dear - Marvin Gaye
The Clown - Charles Mingus

Wanted to represent a variety of styles. Be is the only rap album that I consistently revisit so I think it kind of makes it my favorite rap album ever.

edit - screw it I'm doing 6 because it didn't feel right to leave jazz absent.
