I'm not sure Bird qualifies as he wasn't an elite defender... Hill lacks the longevity/prime.
Pippen was never a dominant scorer.
There are only 2 options

Bird wasn't necessarily elite, but he was pesky and pretty annoying in the passing lanes. He wasn't a great man to man lockdown guy but in terms of team D and giving lots of effort he was pretty good.

This isn't about production, it's about a totally complete all-around game.
And no, my screen name is something random I made up.

"all around game" is very vague. That could be Tim Duncan. That could be Dwayne Wade. Could be KG. Some criteria or definitions would help

This.
I consider mental toughness just as important as defense or passing.
LeBron can't be on the list when you factor in mental fortitude. Sorry.

Sorry, but Tim Duncan can't shoot 3's, D up on the perimeter or run the point.
Wade's a good point, I'll add him to the OP.

Depends. You need to be a good ball-handler, passer, shooter, scorer (as in the ability to create a shot for yourself), rebounder, and at the very least you need to be a net positive on defense.
Not sure how many players fit the bill. :confusedshrug:

In his prime he could do them all but shoot the 3.

Nikkas mentioning Magic and Bird:roll:
For offense yeah but defense counts:no:
Larry was underrated on D but not good enough to be in this discussion:no: and Magic:roll: lotta steals =/= defense or Iverson would be a good defender:facepalm

Precisely. All around doesn't mean versatile, it means being able to do everything.

Can Wade really shoot threes? he had maybe one average 3-point shooting season, where he shot above 30% from 3 and attempted more than 3 threes a game. He certainly isn't close to being a consistent 3-point shooter.
Kobe certainly fits your criteria if guys like Grant Hill are on that list. He can score in any way imaginable, defend anyone at the 1-3 position (talking 01-09 Kobe here), run the point, shoot 3s. He's on that list.

Aaron McKie, Odom, Bob Sura, Doug Christie are the ones that come to mind that have not yet been mentioned.
Edit: Wouldn't consider any of them "GOAT" material for this category, but they were all known as all-around players, and were very good at it.

Also Paul Pierce... don't think he was mentioned yet. Havlicek, Barkley, Bulls Ron Harper (could definitely score), Kukoc, I feel like Alvin Williams was relevant (as an all-around player) for a season or three..., Vlade...
Anyway, the list for "GOAT" all around players really begins and ends with Lebron. Pippen and MJ are up there, though, as are a few other select names. But because of someone mentioning legit 3p shooting as part of the criteria (even though I disagree) it's hard to include big men.
