For me, it is Dennis Johnson. He was only 6'4" but he could defend some of the greats back in the day. Also I have to add a few that just jump right out:

Kobe Bryant
Ron Artest
Michael Cooper
Gary Payton
Sidney Moncrief
Alvin Robertson
Some bum named Michael Jordan
Joe Dumars
Michael Ray Richardson
D-Wade
Jerry Sloan
John Havlicek
Nate McMillian

MJ, obviously.

This. Honorable mention to Lebron, Cooper, and Payton. No one combined team/help/individual defense on the level Jordan did aside from Pippen. No one. There were guys who were as good or possibly better at one aspect, but they didn't have the combination that allowed them to have that full defensive impact all over the court.

Jerry West

4 time all-defensive first team (in his 30s). All-defensive second team in 69 when they first started the award. Averaged 2.6 steals and 0.7 blocks in his final season at age 35. .
