The Dallas Mavericks may be in the market for two of the biggest names on the Knicks.
Our buddy Marc Stein reports in his "Summer Scoop" series that the Mavs hope to be in the mix for free-agent-to-be Carmelo Anthony this summer.
He also reports that Dallas would be highly interested in trading for Tyson Chandler if the Knicks decide to make Chandler available in the offseason.
"The Mavs intend to be at the front of the line to try to reacquire Tyson Chandler should the Knicks make their defensive anchor available via trade.
"Letting Chandler go remains the most fiercely debated aspect of Cuban's decision to break up the Mavs' championship team, but word is they'll indeed pursue what many will regard as an overdue reunion."
The Knicks had a chance to move Chandler at the 2014 trade deadline, but opted against it.
Kind of surprised to see that they are interested in trading for Chandler seeing that he has practically fallen off a cliff. So Mavs fans, what kind of a package would you be prepared to put forward for Chandler, keeping in mind picks and/or young talent will need to be thrown in, otherwise the Knicks could just let him expire this year.
Had a quick browse on their salary issues, would a S&T need to be worked out for Melo if Dallas wants to land him?

interesting. imagine having melo, dirk, and ellis all on the same team. would anyone else even be allowed to shoot the ball?
also, chandler will be a 15 mil expirer next year. so that 1 year of melo and his new contract, dirk, ellis and chandler would be a hefty little price for the mavs.

I have only 2 requirements for moving Chandler:
- 1 pick or young talent is included
- Knicks don't take back a longer term salary

That's what will happen in 2015 as it is. The Knicks are not winning the chip as presently constructed, so why not grab some young talent to develop and picks in the mean time?

Eh, Brandon Wright's shown some promise, but we take back a solid amount of salary for an extra year. I'd prefer a 1st round pick or Larking to be involved.
melo is bad fit chandler is perfect fit, then need a rebounding defensive big

I agree with that but I read other Knicks fans saying Melo isn't going anywhere and I just don't see how he is staying while Knicks are rebuilding, no point for either party really.

Ideally I'd like to S&T Melo for young talent and pick/s.
And trade Chandler for young talent or a 1st rounder.

Signing Melo and trading for Asik would put them in the top tier in the West, but damn Melo and Monta. Does not look like it would work out. Oh and that would render Calderon completely useless

Mavs don't have enough in the Tyson chandler sweepstakes
Pistons have josh smith and could move chandler to a 3rd team.

Melo can get you that but Chandler, with that contract? I am not sure.

Are you seriously going to say that you'd pass up on the opportunity of getting Melo because he might slightly clash with Monta? If anything, you just play Monta more minutes with the second unit.
Melo would be brilliant for their 3PT%.
Dirk .398%
Monta .330%
Calderon .449%
This would be a ridiculously good team on offense. I think Asik would be better than Chandler for the Mavs but the asking price might be slightly higher.

The Mavs should make a move for Asik. The way the Mavs played against the Spurs, they would had a legit chance to come out of the West with Asik.

I would be happy to take back that a similar salary, but just not for longer. No point trading him unless we get some incentive in the form of a 1st or young talent.

If you're Melo, why not. He watched 3 of the guys from his draft class team up together to get rings, might as well try and stack the deck too. No player won without help, and he's not getting any younger. Him and Dirk operate in alot of the same areas but they'd be a potent scoring duo.

Except Melo can't pass. He is a low IQ player. He is an iso player that ONLY THE DUMB FANS THINK IS VALUABLE.
I'm sorry to be blunt. I don't mean to offend anyone personally. But this is the truth. He's no more valuable than a Mike Conley or Shawn Marion. Only dummies are fooled by his iso ball, high ppg. Wow, he was drafted high and has a shoe commercial! This dude must be special! Actually, no. He's on a lower tier than Tony Parker and Marc Gasol. But people act like he's a top 5 impact guy.
Seriously, "the masses" are so fukcing stupid about this stuff. You guys legit do not understand basketball. You think guys like Melo and Arenas and Westbrook and Marbury and Tmac are "superstars" because you hear morons like Tony Kornheiser repeat it over and over.

I despise Melo but if they can make that move then I say go for it. Although they need a defensive big, I couldn't care less about Chandler. He's fallen off but he could play well there again but at that $$$ he's not worth it. The experiment of Monta, Melo and Dirk could be awful but it could be great. If that's the only play that's there for them then I say do it.

2 months ago I would have been against Melo leaving. I'm all for it now; ready to rebuild from ground up. This sounds sweet to me - just get us the picks. I'll deal with the suckage next season if this is how it is. My main concern is the coaching situation right now.
I think Melo would flourish being back west. The grind of eastern style is not his game. Just PLEASE take Chandler. And his beard.

He thrives on the catch and shoot. You ought to know this. I have no knock on Melo; he's been great for us. The quicker tempo suits him.
