Just started watching this and I'm officially hooked. I'm still learning it, but I've got the gist and am really enjoying it. Obviously the time difference makes it a bit difficult but I can usually catch 1-2 games per week. Don't really have a favorite team yet... not sure how I'm gonna go about that. With the worldwide presence on here, surely there are some fans?

Best sport on earth

** May be biased due to being Australian

I've played all different kinds of sports now but nothing comes close to playing Aussie rules that's for sure. Just how many different things it encompasses.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

The few times I've been over the the States I've managed to get quite a few people hooked on it, I think because it seems so odd mostly.

I used to play. So damn fun, but one of the most grueling and exhausting sports to play on the planet.

It really is a great game, and I'm not sure if you can tell by watching, but skills from basketball transition almost perfectly to Aussie Rules outside of the kicking.

In fact, the way I got into the sport was due to being spotted at a basketball event, and then got several letters to switch to Aussie Rules, due to basketball not really having the type of funding it should, hence most serious athletes switching eventually. It's what they usually do over here with the taller, and slightly better athletes, since a lot of the sport clubs cater to football and basketball, with far more money going into football.
I played a few games, but I just stuck with basketball in the end, and played for my school instead as another sport to keep me fit.
One of the best players in the league actually, Scott Pendlebury, played in the junior Australian basketball team with Patty Mills, and he eventually switched to AFL.

Its a great sport.

If possible watch Sydney vs Hawthorn which is starting in about 2 and a half hours. Should be a great game.

If you plan on continuing with following AFL in the future you should go for GWS. Expansion team who will probably torch the competition in 5 years.

What is different about it?

Some awesome physiques too, full homo. Love the multiculutral aspect of the game now, they are starting to do some serious recruiting overseas. My main team is Essendon, but I live 5 min from the Gold Coast Suns stadium and love watching the star studded young team develop.

Taste of the athleticism in the game for those unaware.

I've had a rough time supporting Melbourne the last 7 years.

I've been to Australia twice and buddies took me to a couple of games. Great fun, crowd is crazy. Cool sport, I try to catch some games every now and again. I like the Cats. They're apparently like the Spurs, been a great team for a long time, draft well and develop great players. I think they've won a few championships in the last 10 years and always near the top.

Come on, they created GWS just to try and gain your love. Why don't you love the Giants?

5 years time they will be top 4 material, book it.

Patton, Boyd and Jeremy Cameron forward line? Game over.

Yea, but you get in on the ground floor now while they suck, and when they're dominating the league in 3-4 years time you're not on the bandwagon and get to enjoy all the winning.

Been to a number of games but I'm not a big follower of it.

AFL players are arguably the best athletes of any sport.

My favourite sport. Been a life long member of the Hawthorn Hawks.
