Apple and Beats is a match made in heaven to be honest. Beats is essentially the Apple of the headphone industry.

You're an idiot. He's inferring that Dre being retired or not rapping, his fortune as a rapper doesn't account for.
damn, all that money.
dre in oprah territory.
My ex bought me a pair of solo hds. I'm so glad I didn't pay for those garbage cans. They broke lucky thing she got me a warranty and I take amazing care of my shit.
Pure robbery for those who actually bought it with their hard earned money.

Apple are paying for the popularity of the product not the quality. Beats are some of the worst headphones on the market for the price range but they are everywhere.
I was hoping Dre would have to release Detox to make some money. Now we'll never hear it.:(

i have no idea how much % he owns, but all he needs to own is about 40%~ to reach billionaire status. which isn't even including the money he's already earned outside of this one deal.

According to wikipedia he holds about 15%. But still i would be enough to reach billionaire status after the sale. And no, good businessman never invest their own money

a lot of Wall Street analysts are against this. i guess people here would know more about Beats ear phones vs apples and Beats music downloading vs Itunes.
i didn't realize how big a purchase this was for Apple until i read the article.

15% of 3.2 is just under half a billion.

yeah, just read about that here

50% is owned by HTC. That leaves 50% Dre probably splits his part with Jimmy Iovine evenly, so I can see them having about 30% combined and 20% split among others.

I have an HTC one, came with Beats and a pair of unbranded Beats earbuds.
It's glorified bass boost on the phone, and the earbuds are good, but not worth the price of a branded set.

Just got a tracker ad for Monoprice headphones. Monoprice is like the antimonster-they made their name making cables that were great and supercheap.
Now check this out. They have gotten into headphones

Here's their Sennheisher 280 knockoffs. They're $24 bucks.

I don't use the earbuds that came with the phone, but the thing I like is that there is some serious power going up with the amp. If you listen without headphones you get good volume. It's also enough power to nicely drive my audio-technica.

IF the rumors are true, it may not be for their hardware (headphones), but for their Beats streaming services.
Apple is trying to compete with Spotify, Pandora and other streaming services. Their iTunes Radio is weak compared to the other services at the moment. They purchased LaLa a few years ago, and Beats will be another addition. They'll tweak Beats and integrate it into their ecosystem. They're also buying it and Iovine due to Iovine's music industry ties. Iovine and Jobs were actually sharing ideas for a while now, so these talks may have been years in the making.
Also, often times companies like MS, Google and Apple acquire companies for their talent, code, or patents.

An overpriced IP buying another overpriced IP.
we can do some simple math.
his net worth before this sale was an *estimated* $550million.
this net worth was when Beats was valued at $1B. if he held 15%, then Beats was worth $150m of that net worth.
so how does a sale of $3.2b bump his status? it adds $330m before taxes to his existing $550m. 330 + 550 = 880, and this is before taxes, so not a billion yet if we assume 15% stake is accurate, but nobody knows... wikipedia often posts figures that someone pulled out of their ass.
whether dre breaks 1B, it don't matter because it will happen eventually.
it's not like all his other businesses suddenly stopped streamrolling. he's got an empire.

Apple has been going down hill ever since Jobs died. The company is on a serious decline. Raising prices and no innovative new products. What a terrible decision to buy Beats. They should just develop their own stylish headphones. I guess that's too hard, which is sad because Apple had a possible new source of revenue. This company is failing hard right now.
By the way, he's not a billionaire. A 25% steak in the company on top of getting owned by taxes. He's still well below being a billionaire.

People who are bass heads and like their mids drowned out and they care about making a fashion statement like some pu$$y. I think it's funny that headphones half their price blow them out of the f*cking water in terms of build quality and sound quality.

Not to mention he never really wrote any of his own raps, they were mostly done by Cube back in the NWA days, the D.O.C wrote a lot of Dre's raps on The Chronic, obviously Snoop ghost-wrote a lot as well, then came in Eminem & Jay-Z, who wrote Dre's biggest hits, others include Royce, Game, T.I and I bet there are tons more.
Dre made his money off his name and his "beats", he's a ****ing genius when it comes to mastering a track and polishing a beat, no one else can do it the way he does. He was a big ****** during the Death Row days because he got all butt-hurt over 2Pac stealing his shine and using his beats, though Suge Knight robbed Dre of millions and then threw him out.
Dre was never a rapper, but he's one of the top 5 GOAT hip-hop artists.

Keep your money-making dreams high gook boy.
Because when you fail at that you'll have to revert to having a... personality.
Not sure your parents mentioned that concept while they were smacking you on the head with a bamboo stick.
