The perpetually on-the-bubble series seemed to have a much better chance of renewal this season and when I spoke to creator Dan Harmon and the cast a few weeks back they mostly seemed optimistic. But with the show never having had impressive ratings and a ton of new comedy pilots, NBC decided to pass on another season.

The question then becomes, is this really it for Community? Sony, who produce the series, could try shopping it to another outlet for one more season. The entire "Six Seasons and a Movie" campaign and the cult around Community make it a viable property, but with a relatively small audience, it would no doubt come down to cost. But one only needs to look at the existence of the Veronica Mars movie for proof of how a project of this sort can make a surprising return. For now though, we've got five seasons of Greendale to look back on.

Community cast members have begun tweeting about the cancellation.

Community is a great show...it's kind of hit or miss, but when they do hit they hit big time, there are some absolutely hilarious and genius episodes of Community

I liked the regular episodes, when they got into the themed episodes I was out. Also, the show sucks without Donald Glover - kid is a star.

Have you seen Mystery Team? Pretty funny little movie

Joel McHale stated that if Community got cancelled, he would consider taking Craig Fergusons' late night spot. That would definitely put a halt to Song's plan of finding a new distributor.

the first two season's of community is genius especially the paintball finales. 3 and 4 were also great, but i have to say season 5 got too weird and too many themed episodes.

I don't believe he ever said that. If you're referring to the Stern interview he just said he likely couldn't do it under his NBC contract.

I kinda lost interest mid-way through season 4 and after Pierce left, and stopped watching entirely after Troy left...but I read the reviews, apparently season 5 was really good. I'm gonna go back and watch it all.

Total bummer. That show deserved 6 seasons and a movie.

Total bummer. That show deserved 6 seasons and a movie.

I feel like netflix will pick it up for a sixth season

Season 5 was pretty good imo. Felt a bit rushed due to not enough episodes, but definitely an improvement compared to the crappy S4.

I thought the show dearly missed Donald Glover. Still better than almost everything else on tv. I was never much of a fan of Chase, and I enjoyed the expanded role of the Dean and the introduction of Jonathan Banks' character. Give me Glover with with just the Dean's new role and I would *** my pants every Thursday.

Also don't really get crushes on celebrities. Find them attractive, sure. Not crushes. But OMG I LOVE ALISON BRIE.

I will hunt down and murder the son of a bitch who made this decision.

I was 10 feet from her when she was on @midnight.

Episode also had Danny Pudi (Abed) and Jim Rash (Dean) as competitors, with a guest appearance by Neil Degrasse Tyson.
