If Melo doesn't sign with the Bulls this summer, the Bulls back up plan should be signing a couple of good free agents like Gasol and Ariza or Gasol and Stephenson and bring over Mirotic and re-sign Hinrich and Augustin.

How well do you think this team would do?

Starting lineup:

C: Noah
PF: Taj
SF: Ariza
SG: Butler
PG: Rose

Bench:

C: Gasol
PF: Mirotic
SF: Dunleavy/Snell
SG: Hinrich/Brewer/Fredette
PG: Augustin/Hinrich

Still not enough offense.

Gasol will want to be starter, not bench player.

The starting lineup would have Gasol/Noah/Butler/Rose....all of which are either poor/mediocre 3 point shooters. The spacing would be pretty bad even if the 5th starter was a good 3 point shooter.

Maybe not in the starting lineup but that bench would outscore any other bench in the league.

So after all this time waiting for Mirotic you bring him over, pay his buyout and giving him what? around MLE? to have him be the 4th big in the rotation and play Nazr Mohammed kind of minutes?

And you are telling me one of the cheapest ownerships in basketball is going to pay a $20mill amnesty (Boozer) plus whatever you think Gasol is going to command at 33 years old (who you assume is going to leave LA to go play backup to Taj Gibson in Chicago) plus Mirotic to pretty much be a non-factor next year?

I am sorry but the plan you suggest has 0 chance of happening.

True. And to add, I feel that this roster would be a drastic upgrade. But not the homerun needed to dethrone the Heat.

If Mirotic is really as good as he's hyped up to be, getting Gasol is probably a waste. He'd be getting somewhere between $5-$10 mill/year to be the 4th most best big on the team.

gasol has a hard time staying healthy, i can't see him being against coming off the bench.

That's true. They really do need one more legit superstar player at the 2 or 3. That's why Melo would be absolutely perfect on this team. Melo + a healthy Rose + current Noah = championship. Then you add Taj, Jimmy Butler and hopefully Dunleavy, Augustin and Hinrich all re-sign and Mirotic joins the Bulls finally. They'd have an insane starting lineup and really good depth.

Exactly. The Bulls need to win this comming off seasons free agency sweepstakes. No more plan B or Cs.

That bench defense is pitiful, but overall that lineup is decent. Lot of balanced offense, while maintaining their defensive core in Noah/Taj in the front court and Butler (maybe Rose as well, he seemed to be improving before his injuries) in the perimeter.

Mirotic is a stud, I think under a great coach like Thibs he's gonna be a terrific player. He could very well be a poor man's Dirk. A real poor man's Dirk, not like Andrea ****ing Bargnani.

Forget Gasol though. Every ounce of effort should be put into getting Melo. Unlike 2010, the Bulls have a serious shot at getting a dynamic, top 5 offensive player.

It's Melo or bust, not interested in a has-been.
