talking more mainstream, not obscure stuff nobody has ever heard of.

the 2 main songs that stand out to me the most are

Radioactive - Imagine Dragons

Happy - Pharrel

I'm not a huge music fan but i swear these stand out and separate themselves from the rest that i can think of that i've heard. I feel like i'm missing one but even then i don't think it would stack up to either of these two.

it also seems rare where a song sticks out so much these days given i can only come up with these two in terms of recent memory.

i feel like these are as mass liked as any songs, maybe even in the last 4-5~ years

thoughts?

I'm not a fan of either song.
I think part of the problem is how easy it is to access music and the frequency of air play on any given music platform has pretty much killed the idea of turning a song into a classic.
Pre internet or satellite radio you had maybe one top 40 station and 1 station of each genre. You liked a song and you were forced to go buy the tape or CD. The made singular songs more appreciated. Nowadays once a song catches fire the song becomes unbearable and is heard everywhere.
Right now I like that Ed Sheeran song Sing, but if it gets crazy airplay, which it does now I'll be over it in a week.

But if I had to pick a song that stood out over the last few years I'd pick Fun- We Are Young

i can't stand that stupid imagine dragons... dumb name for a band and a terrible song. So generic.

I think a recent standout song is Daft Punk's get lucky. I agree with Happy though. Def. a recent standout and will probably be popular years from now.

man i never expected replies like this in terms of mainstream liked songs...

i would have sworn most people at least thought they were both decent to good songs.

i should've known better when it comes to music tho, since people seem to have very different tastes all around with it.

It's hard to hear Happy and not want to dance. It's a Motown knockoff, but a catchy one. Kinda Motown lite.

Imagine Dragons are wannabe hipster garbage. No wonder the OP likes them.

what you mean by stand out?

I guess in this case you mean songs that will be on the public conscious for a while.

That 'new' Michael Jackson song is a feel good throwback type that I see myself playing more than once

Wouldn't mind hearing some other really stellar stuff that's a little more unique, overlooked in this thread from the real music stans

honestly Rihanna sucks these days.

she used to be great but now she's basically a background vocals singer repeating the same hook over and over again in every song.

kills me how wack she is now, and how shitty her music has gotten.

pharell fan huh? those are probably my 2 most annoying songs of the past year (actually drunken love might take the cake). Those 2 songs are the definition of "pop", "mainstream" and "corny" lol but just my opinion

its working for him though so im sure we'll be hearing similar songs from him in the future
