Do you have to be 18 or older to buy a flight ticket?

So this summer I am going to/want to travel overseas alone , I'm 17. I googled this and there was alot of mixed results. I've heard people under 18 are allowed to fly alone but not allowed to buy a ticket. Also If my parents were to buy the ticket for me , would I be able to travel alone?

Yes I returned home alone from vacation w/my family once back before I was 18. I don't know about buying the ticket though.
