View Full Version : Is Ray Allen a first ballot Hall of Famer?
Serious question.
Has he done enough with all the records etc and winning two rings? Or does he need a 3rd ring this year for it to be a sure thing?

Of course! How is the leading 3 point shooter in NBA history and the clutch master not a first ballot HoFer?

Of course.
He could still be an all-star with starters minutes and a lot of touches, IMO.
Miami is THAT stacked.

Ray Allen is the all-time 3 point makes leader, 10 time all star, and was a key contributor for 2 titles.
1st ballot.

not a shot in hell, Most ridiculous thing i've read in a while.
Remember it's first ballot. A lot great players in sports get snubbed despite their accomplishments. He's 100 % a future Hall of Famer. But will he be First ballot?

Roy Hibbert made the all-star team this year. Joe Johnson made the all-star team this year with 15ppg and BAD percentages.
Please, dude. The east is a joke.
oh the horror

I think he is. I remember loving him when he was coming out of UConn. Dude has the sweetest stroke too. One of the greatest shooters ever and still super clutch.

Yeah Hibbert made it because of his defense. In which Allen lacks at his age. John Johnson made it for media related stuff, some clutch ass shots and a great streak. Guy played great. If you really believe Ray Allen at his age with more minutes causing his to be a defensive liability would be an allstar, you sir know nothing about basketball.

Ray is not getting snubbed, unless his year of eligibility is loaded with names and even then I doubt he would get snubbed.

but allen would not get enough minutes and shots on a playoff team. nets was on a tear since the new year and indiana had the best record which is why they gave joe and hibbert all star nod.
also, he rarely ever creates shots for himself. he turns it over most of the time when he tries to create himself.

No doubt he's a first ballot HOFer. If he get his 3rd ring this year, that really makes him one of the more decorated SG's of all time. He's already the all time leader in 3's, is a 10 time All Star, has a Gold medal, has over 24,000 points. I have him as the 8th GOAT SG. If he wins a third ring, u could make the case that he deserves to be as high as number 5 or 6 GOAT wise at SG. And He can EASILY play till 40 and be great off the bench.
And to top it off, Ray kind of redefined what a pure shooter is in the NBA. The great pure shooters before him were the guys like West, Bird, Reggie, Ellis, Rice, Price etc. At 6'5, Ray had a handle and athletic ability that wasn't really seen from a pure shooter. West was very athletic and awesome all around at 6'3, but he wasn't playing above the rim the way Ray was. And Ray also had a very good all around game and often ran PG early in his career.

No. He is a HOF'er but not a first ballot HOF'er. While he is a 10-time all-star, he made only 2 all-NBA teams (one second team and one third team) and he was never a MVP candidate. These facts reflect what he was: a good player for many years but never a top-tier player. He is this generation's Reggie Miller--with rings. Did Reggie make it on the first ballot? I doubt it but am curious. If he did then Allen should too.

Soon to retire are Garnett, Duncan, Ginobli, Pierce and Duncan. Unless those guys load up and go out the same year Ray Allen is safe. Seeming Allen will outlast them all? He's seemingly on the two year plan with Dirk.

Ray will get in before manu and probably before pierce too (that 3 point record will do wonders lol)

Nicely put. The question then is will the fact that he was never a top-tinder overshadow his records/accomplishments and titles?

I hear you on all this but ray was more then just a good player he was a great player, a star player that just so happened to be overshadowed by other stars in his era...its a shame really...someone like james harden will collect so many all nba first teams probably but can you really say he was better then ray, or pierce, or mcgrady, or carter, or kobe, or iverson, etc not really but the accolades will show that
I know your point though...ray was never a real mvp candidate and was never a top 5 player in the league...he was probably top 10 for like 2 yrs of his career but besides that was mainly a top 15 player

Well said! Ray Ray played in the Golden Era of SG's. U had Kobe, Wade, AI, Vince, and T-Mac. And don't forget Pierce played multiple seasons listed as an SG. All of those guys except T-Mac (due to injuries) will be likely first ballot HOFers. And I think T-Mac will still likely get in at some point. And don't forget guys like Manu too. Ray carved his niche in that group as the pure shooter of the bunch. Who was also athletic enough to be in a dunk contest and go over the top in games. Ray I feel was smoother than all those guys other than T-Mac. Ray was the one guy of that bunch who could REALLY dominate a game off the ball from anywhere on the court. While getting 24-26 points, 5 boards, and 5 dimes a game at his best. Ray was no doubt a great player who created an HOF career in the DEEPEST TALENT POOL EVER AT HIS POSITION!
If u put a peak Ray Allen in the L today, he would be the best SG in the L (since Kobe is out and don't how how he would come back and Wade is still iffy due to injury). In the MJ era, he would have been the 3rd best SG behind MJ and Clyde. And in that late 70's to early 80's era, only Gervin and Thompson (but DT was mad injury prone and drugged out so not better long term) would have been better. So in most era's, Ray would have been a top 2-3 SG for that era.

Boston owners didn't treat him any worse than Perk, Doc and other former Celtics. The fans weren't as loving but he still got a mostly positive return from what i remember.

Yes, because it's the basketball HOF not NBA HOF. Even if you think his NBA credentials won't get him in first ballot when you add his college career plus Olympic gold he's in.
