just goes to show how fragile confidence is...not even a 100m dollar contract can reinforce that :oldlol:

Him and DRose should restructure their contracts. At this point, they are just stealing money and hampering their franchise.

ofcourse he is going to feel like that

he went from a team that literally put the ball in his hands and basically said we only go as far as you take us to the nets where he is literally taking turns in iso ball with joe johnson paul pierce garnett brooke lopez and blatche. All of those guys can have great nights and over time that willingness to put the ball in Derons hands ALL the time will go away hence killing someones confidence especially somebody with the pressure of a 100 million dollar contract, same thing happened to Gilbert arenas (except gilbert had worse injurys making it even worse)

Gilbert arenas in Orlando is a perfect example

he had a massive contract of a superstar but was expected to play WITHIN Dwight Howards team
you cannot have a massive contract, play within a team and still produce massive numbers and not be under criticism, that's just the way it is

The way i see it he has two options, one shut up try your best and eventually become the guy that was over paid which ends up happening for ALOT of players in the nba gilbert arenas larry hughes butler jamison rashard lewis josh smith

or two he takes a pay cut and pressure to be the man every single night slowly disappears all while gaining that respect back and of course he gets to play in great teams while occasionally looking like that superstar he can be but its not expected every single night ie tony parker style

most people in this world will choose the money, me personally id take the money and the criticism and not care but everybody is different

Becuase he's not. He's a detriment to the team if he would go out thinking he's the best. Ego check needed for next year.

Is he better when he goes out thinking he is not the best? Is his play indicative that he plays better and makes his teammates better when he thinks he is not the best on the court? When he was thinking he was the best, he was clearly playing at a much higher level. Now I know injuries play a part in his struggles but if you think you are not the best when you go on the court, then clearly you wont be the best player on the court. The best in the biz think they are the best and thats why they play at a high level. I wouldnt want him to go out and force the action and try to do it all himself but I do think confidence will allow him to play his game and play his game better.

Umm, that's how you have to play the game. Spoken like someone who never even touches a basketball regularly. You need that mentality. Especially when you ARE your team's best player. Which he was for the vast majority of his career on Utah, and then eventually Brooklyn. He needs to drop weight to get that quickness, and explosiveness back.

Whether he actually was the best player on the floor or not, that type of mentality is often what allows players to perform in the manner with which they do, as you said. The moment that confidence begins to waver, everything falls apart. It's a fight to get it back.

Dude has always been like this that's why he has never been number 1.

I remember in an interview with D-Will when he was playing against the Lakers in the playoffs where he admitted, in the middle of the playoff series, that he felt over matched. He just had this look of defeat and reeked of low self confidence throughout the interview, it was hard to watch.

See Carlos Arroyo's asinine performance v.s. Team USA in the 2004 Olympics for proof of this theory. It's truth.

When a team counts on you to be their best player, one HAS to have the confidence in themselves to be that hope for a team.

And NumberSix's dumb response tells me he's never been counted on to EVER be his team's best player. Even if there was someone else ont he floor more capable than himself.

:facepalm

It's called pride. It's called heart. Go watch Rudy. If it beats in your chest strong enough, it can carry you over certain obstacles.

Dwill was visibly scared to shoot last shots for the nets.. aside from a joe johnson 3 pter the Nets did not score a field goal in the last five minutes of both games 4 and 5 which they shouldve won. Cant win with no leadership and PP/KG can only do so much.

If you switched dwill for ray allen straight up i think nets might win the series.

Wtf was wrong with him that he thought he was the best before?

He was the best. Even though he wasn't head and shoulders above other guys, if he could go out on the court and play like an all-star vs anyone, I think he has the right to think he's the best.

Just like when Paul Pierce won his ring and was like yea I'm the best...

If you can ball vs the best, if you can make CP your bitch in head 2 head matchups, why can't you believe you are the best?

Injuries or not, I haven't seen a fall off like Deron. Mind blowing cuz he's an Illinois guy and I actually was going for him. He is the best NBA player in U of I history... lol. Not anymore tho.

lol are you talkin about when the Lakers were winning rings and he was playing along side Carlos Boozer? He was overmatched. The Jazz had no chance in that series.

It's ****ing depressing to know you can go out there and play at superstar level and still lose.

Now, it's the opposite. If he was 18-10 Deron, the Nets might have been able to compete with the Heat. People are forgetting Lopez was injured, but a large portion of this loss has to go to Deron... although many props to JJ for stepping up and being a superstar.

Obviously not true ... You suck at basketball talk.

But it is funny, when I played him in HS, he wasn't even his team's best player at that time.

Guy named Bracey Wright was.

Dee brown was meant to be a better recruit in college to

I think when a player says he feels is the best doesn't mean he doesn't realise other players are great. Its that cocky-ness and wanting of the challenge from other players and feeling like you have what it takes to get the W for your team

He got hurt and I sympathize as someone who lost good deal of his feel shooting the ball. It's almost impossible to get back and extremely frustrating. His stroke is gone and he prob won't be able to build it again.

If he played hard he would be better and it would open up pathways to getting his confidence back. But he doesn't even play hard. No enthusiasm, no chance to get better. He is what's wrong with sports today.
