In light of Lebron's dominant post performance vs the Nets, and looking forward to the Pacers...

Sporting News (http://www.sportingnews.com/nba/story/2014-01-08/lebron-james-post-up-miami-heat-eastern-conference-scout-stats-efficiency-mvp-nba-championship)

As one Eastern Conference scout told Sporting News, "He is better this year, actually. He keeps making the game easier for himself, finding ways to get easy baskets. It is not like he is on autopilot. If it looks like he is not always giving 100 percent effort, then it is only because he has so many things figured out, even more than last year."

The main difference, another East scout said, is James' ability in the post. He began cultivating a post-up game three years ago, and had success with it almost immediately. But this year has been different.

"He is the best post-up player in the league, really," the scout said. "You used to be able to get him to take jumpers in the post, but now he is smarter, he is able to get by you and get himself an easy basket. It's a nightmare. He is that much more efficient."

Indeed, when you break down the numbers, it is clear that James’ post-up game has evolved into the league’s best. First, start with frequency (post-up plays as a percentage of James’ total offensive possessions), going back to the 2010-11 season, his first in Miami...

Factoring in his sizzling turnaround J, I have a strong suspicion Lebron is going to torture Indy's frontcourt in this series. New bag of tricks. He is *gasp* better than last year.

I remember game 3 last year bran bullied George down low. It was just simple drop steps and some left hand bank shots but it seems like George can't check him down there.

the turnaround still needs more polishing and his jumphook is the worst shot in the basketball, but one can't argue his effectivness down there - he is unstoppable 1on1

Lebron's center of gravity is ridiculously low. He looks like he's damn near doing the splits sometime when ''fighting for'' - or in his case ''deciding'' a position in the low-post. It's literally impossible to displace him from that stance. There really is a Shaq-like quality to the way he bumps around down there, and the way defenders appear to bounce off/bounce away from him when contact occurs...

Al Jefferson is probably the best, well at least until May hit. Lebron was after that. DH should be next year. But Lebron might challenge that.

Really impressive, he takes advantage of mismatches and his footwork is actually pretty nice. Might not be the most technical or aesthetic post player, but he doesn't really need to be. The post stats speaks enough.

Expect Lebron to have his way with George this series in the post.

What peremiter players have in advantage in the post, is their ability to turn shots into a mini-jump shot.

Kd's been a little dissapointing this year, but he has been the best post up player alongside Kobe last year and the year prior.
People don't understand the difference between being the best post up player and the best post player

Kobe has been the most efficient post up player in the league for quite a few years.

No he hasn't. Kobe barely posts up. It's like calling a player who shoots 1 three a game the best 3 point shooter in the NBA.

Stronger, better at establishing position, better at finishing, statistically more effective than Duncan? Probably.
