I know this is a basketball forum, but saw this highlight of a guy who is 6'9 and he can just jump OUT OF THE GYM. He has a recorded spike height of 389cm (The highest point where you smack the ball) 389cm is almost 13 feet, he probably can reach 13 feet if he purely just jump straight up.

He is wasting his physical tools and talent. :facepalm :facepalm :facepalm
Just watch the video and you will understand what I mean...

Damn, I would not want to be the blocker against this guy. He basically spikes those balls down at 90

Damn near touches the top of the backboard himself.

Hes played ball all his life and bounces from the Dleague back to europe.

That guy is just athletic. How is he supposed to become good as basketball in time to be anything? Hes already great at what he does.

Probably afraid of a bit of contact.

Since when does jumping high mean you're gonna be great at basketball?

if more black people got into volleyball instead of basketball, it's over. shut it down, go home.

Because jumping ability doesn't equal being great at basketball. Tim Duncan is the greatest PF of all time. I dont think of him as a freak athlete (by NBA standards)

Because Volleyball > basketball

why would he switch to basketball? Because if he makes the NBA he would be a multimillionaire? That would be the only incentive IMO and to some people, there is more to life than money.

He enjoys volleyball and based on the title of the video, he is already a legend in his own sport.

When are people going to stop thinking that jumping high = great basketball potential. In this case maybe it's true who knows, but believe it or not basketball isn't a game about who jumps the highest.

lefthook00

The thing is, volleyball players are almost 100% 2 foot jumpers...usually not as good for basketball.

Because skill is a lot more important than jumping high in basketball, despite what ISH would have you believe. :confusedshrug:

I'm sure that there's volleyball forums out there with people who wonder why all these NBA players are wasting their talent playing basketball and not playing volleyball like true alphas

Because there are other aspects in basketball than just jumping. If that's his passion, then it's gonna be a hard transition for him if people force him to switch sports.

It doesn't work like that, unless you're Mt. Mutombo.

there is no volleyball's equivalent to NBA though. If a player was skilled enough for both sports choosing bball would be a no brainer from an economic standpoint.

Not everyone is Kobe Bryant. It's not all about the money.

Just like there are some diehard basketball fans here on ISH, there are passionate people out there who live and breathe volleyball.

he looks far more epic than he is because he towers over everyone and because of the way volleyball is setup where they tip the ball to him setting him up for the spikes while everyone else stands around

put him on a basketball court on a professional level and he looks like just another dude and it becomes about far more than just his vertical or height

He seriously does. His spikes look like DeAndre catching an oop with 1 hand.

This I literally thought of DJ when I say him, exact same leap/1 hander smash. DJ would be a freak at volleyball imo if he switched over.

Wow, I know nothing about real deal volleyball, so that link in the first post looks incredible to me. I think russwest0 is probably on the right track too though. A guy that large likely looks even larger when he's playing amongst normal-sized folks. Though, in high level volleyball, do players tend to be normal sized (5'10'' - 6'4'') or does it also cater to the taller people?

Sometimes I wish I specialized in another sport besides basketball only so I could have known what it felt like to be a comparative giant. 6'3'' or 6'4'' in basketball is guard status. Yet, on my area's soccer pitch I would have been one of the big guys.
